I had the same experience with Greenies, and Indy would devour a large Booda bone (chicken flavor) in about 10 minutes. No nutrition and the chunks pass through the digestive tract intact. YUK!!! At three dollars apiece, one a day gets expensive.

Then I got a large bag of Mother Hubbard's large size P'nuttier bones. They don't last as long as a Booda, but Indy really enjoys them. They helped overcome some of the commands he was slow in responding to. Down being the primary command. He would obey, but it was as though he had molasses in his joints.

He'll drop like a stone thanks to the P'nuttiers. Indy doesn't gulp his food. He eats slowly and chews the bones well. Some dogs who "wolf" down their food might have a problem if they don't chew them to small enough bits.

I have to go with the bully sticks as well. Harley thinks he is the king of the world when I give him one. He would rather spend hours chewing one of those than eating anything else. A friend of mine deals with breeding german breed dogs, such as boxers, rotweilers and german shepards. All dogs with strong jaws, and he said he has never found a natural treat that would last near as long as a bully stick. You just have to get past the idea of them and your dog will deffinately love you for it :D

Dear Mr. Thomas Liggin:

Thanks so much for returning to the original topic of this post.

It's interesting that Indy had the same problems with both the Greenies and Booda's that Ozzie did. I thought it was really weird that Ozzie would barf up just chunks of Greenies with absolutely nothing else. And yes, it can become quite expensive.

I'm going to look into the P'nuttier bones you've mentioned. After work yesterday, I got home and promptly discarded anything that even resembled rawhide. (I should have known better by now....geez).

I'm also still up for further suggestions on rawhide alternatives. Enough already about bull "things."

Thanks to all who have posted responses. Please, anyone else with other ideas please chime in.

Chewing needs....

for this I swear by Nylabone's with the occasional cow hoof thrown in for variety.(You have to watch out though, because they are hard to digest for a lot of dogs, mine included, and they usually vomit up a few small chunks about 48 to 72 hours after ingesting them.) Nylabones come in several flavors and I've tried them all, ham, chix,original and our favorite chocolate!

After ingesting which ones? You mentioned 2 different bones, which one is hard to digest?

They must mean the cow hoofs come back up, because Nylabone is inedible. It's just for chewing. At least the ones we have are.


Today I bought Center Dog Bones peanut butter filled bone. Has anyone ever tried these? I think they are real bones with baked peanut butter where the marrow should be. There are other flavors, too. I gave it to Beau today and he has not put it down. He carries it where ever we go. Are those ok for me to give him? There is a website on the package:

I am about to go check it out.
I also bought the Galileo bone from Nylabone, and he chewed on it for a couple of minutes, but the Center Dog bone he seems to like MUCH better.

I was just looking for a safe alternative to rawhide and you may try this- -Potato Popups, they sound like they would keep them busy for a while??
