O.K., folks, I'm taking a bit of a survey here...

My Ozzie has had rawhide for the last time.

What are some of the latest (and hopefully, greatest) alternatives to pressed rawhide bones?

By the way: Boodas resulted in projectile diarrhea.........Greenies resulted in puked up bits of nothing but greenies.

Please let me know what to give him to chew that's safe.

Jenn, you are much braver than me! I just cannot bring myself to give Rocks a bully stix :o Beef liver, sure I can do that! Beef heart, yup can do that too. But a bully stix I just can't do it :LOL:


What about Nylabones? They also make edible nylabones and Rocks loves those!!! Are you looking for something to satisfy chewing cravings or to give him something to do? At night Rocks either gets a frozen kong or a frozen bone that I stuff with cheese. This is when we are all ready to settle down to watch TV and its to early for him to go to bed :)

I second the bully stix suggestion! Apollo loves them and he will stay occupied for quite some time with a fresh one. Once I saw how much he liked them, I just quit thinking about what they are...

I have been thinking about this too. I have a marrow bone that she has gotten all the marrow out of, so now we put peanut butter in it and she takes a while for that. I also have for her several cow hooves both she and Dexter chew on them-- have you tried hooves? Bully stix last like 10 min or less in our house. Kiki loves velvets and nylabones too. I also have a kong bone one that you can stick treats into both ends of it....she usually breaks off the treat and then spends a bit trying to get the rest of it out.....she also will chew on it for a bit even when nothing is in it.

--?'s when you buy a kong what size is good for our boxers? Do you just get heapings of peanut butter and spoon it in and then toss in the freezer? Do you leave down or pick it up as soon as they are done?--

I dont spoon in the peanut butter, its SO messy. I use a pastry bag and squirt it in.

I was having this same problem with rawhides lasting with Kali for about 5min. So we have several Nylabones and she LOVES them. I would have never thought but she does.

Ok, I confess, I didn't have any idea what a "bullystix" was so I looked it up......YUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!! Who came up with that idea- a cow;) :rolleyes: NO bullystixs for Otto, will stick with his Nylabones...

yeah yeah i know it is really gross what the bully stix are made of but they really keep him occupied even when the two kitties are out and about:) that is why i put the link there..i just could not bear to actually just say yup i give my dog bull wieners and he just loves them!!! hahahahahahaha he really does love them and I have been told that someone makes a 36" bullystick that might last for a boxer:) we get the 7 or 12" one's as to avoid giving Biggs a complex:LOL:
