Tyshart is right, this is where we can boast and talk about our babies and share stories and pictures! If we didn't have this place, our family & friends who don't "get it" would clobber us eventually, and ask us to please shut up, and NO they don't want to see anymore dang baby pictures!! lol

The Boxer IS a perfect dog, for some people. Not for everyone. If you hunt birds, a boxer probably isn't the best bet. If you want a dog to stay in the backyard (which i think it bad for any breed but esp the boxer) then a Boxer is not for you. If you don't want the stress and worry about Boxer "lumps and bumps" they are notoriuos for, a Boxer isn't for you. If doggy gas, eye boogers and the occasoinal slobbery kiss isn't high on your list, a Boxer isn't for you. If you don't have time or energy to spend walking your Boxer and/or playing with it a LOT then a Boxer isn't for you.

BUT: A laugh a minute, lives life to the fullest, a maximum velocity version of canine slapstick. But he is also a sympathetic soul, a shoulder to cry on, a confidante. He is all that is good in a dog. There has never been a truer statement and personally I don't see myself being owned by any other kind of dog. I have had other breeds growing up my whole life and there is just something special about the Boxer than I haven't found in any of those other breeds. My two are much more than the "family dog". They are family and are ALWAYS wherever I am with those adoring deep brown eyes and boxer smiles.

I couldn't agree with all of you!! Hubby is the one who wanted the Boxer, I personally, wanted a Rottie. We ended up with Junior, this beautiful flashy fawn! Awhile back I told my hubby that I would never own another breed of dog. They simply are.....THE BEST. As it was noted, they do require alot of attention, affection, and exercise, so if your looking for a pet DEMANDING your attention, why not a Boxer??

All of these posts are perfect, the boxer is a perfect dog. I will never have another breed. They do however have lots of ENERGY, gas, slobber, eye goops but lots of LOVE and AFFECTION too! I've never seen another breed with as much need for human interaction and love. Because they crave human attention, if they don't get enough, they can be destructive. Spend some time around a friend's boxer and see if it's the right fit for you. Good luck!

This may answer your question. Have you ever heard of people yelling to dog owners "Nice Lab, or Nice Golden, chiuaua, terrier ....etc.? Have people ever stopped their car and came running over to someone you know to pet their breed of dog? This is just about a daily occurance for boxer owners. We are a society of fanatics for a reason. All you have to do is live with one and you will know the secret!!

I couldn't agree more! I got Hammer in June 2002 because my husband wanted a boxer, we got Ginger in October 2002 because I wanted a boxer, and in July of 2003 we got Booker because now we want ALL the boxers to be living at our house!!

They are a breed like no other I have encountered. And yes, they do have traits that are less than desireable but those can't outweigh their natural charm and silliness! :p

Thanks for the feed back

I do not own a boxer now but I have been around them. My sister has a 12 month old and a few friends do as well, so I am around them. The things that attract me to the breed are their looks, lean and muscular, athletic, energetic, and good with the family. Thanks for all the feed back. I'm enjoying reading the site and look forward to when the time is right to get a boxer of my own.

Happy Holidays,

Will

Check out the boards on www.pugvillage.com. Pug owners are just as passionate about pugs as boxer owners are about boxers. I should know. I have one of each. These two breeds of dogs have the most personality that I have ever seen in dogs.

LOL -- I was about to say that the original poster had probably never met pug people :)

My brother has a little herd of them.

To me Boxers are very humanlike. I can't imagine having another breed. They are so expressive and loving. I'm sure that people that own other breeds feel the same about their pet. It just happens that the Boxer is the PERFECT pet for us.:D
