Question about baby gifts

I need some help making a decision. A good friend of mine is having a baby next month. I went out a couple of weeks ago and bought her some gifts. I knew there was a shower coming up. I got the invitation yesterday and see that she is registered at Babies R Us. Now...what I'm wondering is do I keep what I already have that is wrapped and ready to go or do I return it all and go to the store where she's registered and get some things from there? I checked the list and she pretty much needs everything. This is her first baby so it wasn't difficult to pick anything out. What I got were pretty normal things, a pooh bear hat, pooh bear booties, a union suit, a lullaby crib light and diapers with wipes. I also intended to go get something just for her like a new pretty nightshirt with slippers and some bath things. So...please tell me what you think, I can't decide and the shower is saturday. Thanks.

Keep what you have... Don't worry first time mom's love everything... If you want pick up some more diapers and wipes.. Size 1 diapers... pick up some of those and some newborn wipes... I think you have done well.. and I am pregnant with baby #2... your a good friend

I agree, and even if she gets duplicates, you may have to change a baby's clothes four or five times a day sometimes, so they will be very much appreciated.

I had my first baby in August and I didn't get much of what I actually registered for but everything I got was useful and something I needed. If you have a gift reciept for the items that can be really helpful if she has duplicates. I would not worry about the things you bought her I'm sure she will really appreciate them. =)

As a new mom, I say keep what you bought.. It shows thought.
I would also include gift receipts, Just incase.

I'd say keep your gift... everything you got is useful. Plus, a lot of the time, even if the new mothers are registered somewhere, people forget to tell the store that they're purchasing from a registry, so the count of what has, and has not been purchased isn't always accurate.

I just hosted a baby shower for my sister this past Sunday, and I don't believe I got her one thing she was registered for...but she didn't even notice. Her baby's theme is Whinnie the Pooh so I just bought some Pooh items (boy having a "theme" is expensive) then lots of little pink dresses and other items that caught my eye (yes I couldn' stop shopping everything was so small and cute), and she was thrilled with everything, well except for 1 or two items, but that is because we have different taste.
