Our poor girl, now 10 months has never been healthy. Started with a bad case of demodex and now something else. We have had her at the vet numerou$$ times and the poor thing just looks miserable. First diagnosis for the pinkness, swollen feet and hair loss was demodex, last diagnosis was yeast. We have done medicated baths and medication for 10 days now and I don't see much a difference. I'm starting to think grass allergy or something?! Have any of you had similiar issues? I've searched the net over trying to find anything..

THanks in advance!

Michelle

Awe, poor thing. I have no advice but I do hope you find some relief.

I wonder if its an allergy thing?

I'm wondering if maybe she is allergic to grass? Or something? The vet bills are killin me and the poor thing is SO bloody, raw & cracked she has to be miserable. :(

She could certainly be allergic to grass - or to something else she comes into contact with. Other than allergy testing, the simplest way to find out would be to keep her away from grass for a period. The period would probably need to be quite long for you to see marked improvement in such a long-running and severe looking case. But it beats still wondering in a year's time ;)

If grass is absolutely unavoidable, rinsing the feet immediately after contact can help some (would suggest also drying, since her feet are in such a state).

Having said that - I also wonder about the possibility of a food allergy. Have you fed the same food for a prolonged period, or do you feed anything (food or treats) with lots of sugar (molasses or beet pulp being the most common forms) in it? Those sorts of ingredients, along with common grains such as corn, wheat and even rice (since its now so incredibly common), often produce red skin and itchies, which if not treated (treated meaning removing the allergen - feeding something else - not medications) can lead to chronic yeast infections and other skin problems. Might not be your case at all - but your description certainly makes me wonder about it.

I'm so sorry your baby girl is having problems, poor thing, her paw looks like it hurts. :( I hope you can find out what's causing them. Taking a good look at her diet and possible contact/environmental allergens are a good start. My boy was allergic to everything (food and environment) and it took a while to pinpoint all the things that set off reactions. Good luck. Sending healing vibes to your girl.

I'm not sure what is causing her feet to blister, but possibly, if it is a grass allergy, maybe try putting dog boots on her. I know it would be a pain to have to do this, but at least she could still go out to play.
Just a thought, not sure if it would work.

Poor thing! I would think grass allergies, possibly with a combination of food allergies. Allergies to food are common, and sometimes you will see symptoms of food allergies only when other allergies seem very severe. So I'm thinking that she's got an allergy to grass, but the food allergy she's already dealing with is making it that much worse. Definitely try to keep her off the grass for a while....

Any suggestions on boots?? I got some from WM and they were garbage. They were a little too small and she wouldn't keep them on.
The vet suggested the costco brand of food, so that is what she has been getting here, but she also like to go visit her aunts house and her boxers dish! SHe is also outside. It's SO hard to try to figure this out, but the poor thing is so icky :(
keep the suggestions coming!

Perhaps a local pet store would have a better selection of doggie boots.
Maybe your pup is having a reaction to a chemical. I have noticed around here that lots of grass service companies are applying fall fertilizer. When I walk Roxy I have to keep my eye out for lawn signs indicating an application or for residue on the sidewalk. I avoid her walking on it.

I don't know about Costco brand food, but it seems that it probably wouldn't be a very high quality food. Check out http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/ to help you find a high quality food.

Sending lots of healthy,healing vibes.
