Hi, don't know if its normal, and I am not complaining, but my puppy boxer (just under 4 months old) only barks once in a blue moon when he gets very scared or in his sleep. In fact this has only happened about 4-5 times since we got him 3 months ago. Is that normal puppy behaviour? Will he bark more when he grows up? I do like the fact that barking is so rare, I just never expected that from my dog....
Am I just being paranoid?

P.S. By the way, he cries whenever he wants to get our attention when we are in other parts of the house.

Wow!

Our Baxter is 6 months old this week and man is he loud. He doesn't bark except when he is playing with his big sister Lab. But at 6 months that is ALL the time, even when Sara (the aforementioned Lab) doesn't want anything to do with him.

I am going to go out on a limb here and guess that you neither of you have any other dogs. If you do, then I would say that this is unusual. But if you don't I can see it.

Baxter sounds like Chewbacca from Star Wars half the day and sounds like a crooning "Woo Woo'ing" rock star the other half.

Man I love this breed!

Trinity is just about 5 1/2 months old and she hardly ever barks! If she's really into playing she may bark a little bit, especially if it's a toy that makes noise, but she's never barked for any other reason. I have read that most boxers won't bark unless they feel they have to, which is a good thing I think. Now we don't have any other dogs, but when she does play with them she has never barked either! :D

Hi all...Joe is 15 weeks old and has been barking since we got him at 10 weeks. It's so cute because he already has different barks for different things. It's also cute to hear his bark "develop" into a big boy bark! It sounds like Joe is not the norm!!!:)

Ozzy didn't bark either till he was older and Ryker taught him how! I just loved it. He can bark but only when it seems necessary, I sure love it because Ryker does the barking for twenty dogs

The only time my three bark if is a stranger knocks, they never bark for the joy of barking as beagles or hounds do. A boxer bark is a warning (in my limited experience).

Our first boxer Fred didnt start to make the slightest bark until he was over 1 year old we never thought any thing of it but Rufus our 7 month old boxer started barking when we got him home when he was 7 weeks old and still hasnt stop lol:rolleyes: . He cries for anything that he wants and i mean cry! It is the most pittyful cry i have ever heard but you cant resist it when those big puppy eyes look up at you.:) :) Elsa our 2,1/2 year old boxer only barks when someone comes to the door or anyone that doesn't live in our house comes in. Don't worry about him its just one of those things thats different for each dog. while on the subject. Do male boxers and female boxers bark the same? Rufhs has exactly the same bark as Fred had. sometimes you think its Fred until you remember that hes not there anymore.

It is normal for boxers not to bark. They were bred not to bark when they originated in Germany. Now this has changed some over the years as they got more and more popular and more people bred them. But I would say that there are more boxers that won't bark than most other breeds.

well, the only time Krose barks is either at a cat or when he is trying to tell us something!

It's normal for a boxer not to bark. My Lacey only barks when necessary. My neighbor had a boxer (she's waiting at the bridge) and I hardly ever heard her bark. My male boxer (Loki..waiting at the bridge) barked a lot. I think that's why Lacey barks as much as she does. :)
You'll learn your boxer's different barks. He will let you know when something isn't right.
Boxers are whiners. That's their way of communicating with you.
Boxers also love attention. They will bug you all the time to play if you let them.
Do you have a book on Boxers? If not it would probably be in your best interest to read up and learn about them. :)
