Update

We visited the Vet this morning and she was quite happy with his condition. Dropping the dosage of Pred to 40mg per day for the next two weeks. She told us to start giving him Tums, because the Pred is also tough on the tummy. He has had some awful gas (stinky!!). It's probably the canned food, eggs, cottage cheese and fish oil. He can eat whatever he wants and fart as much as he wants and long as he's happy..... :)

That's good news! Austin had tons more gas when he was on the pred, too. Got to the point where it didn't even faze me anymore!

I lost my beautiful boy also named Zeus to lymphoma on 5-16-08. It makes me cry to think of how you are feeling right now. My Zeus was only 6 when he was diagnosed. I researched lymphoma extensively and the news wasn't good. I had a great vet who told me that although lymphoma is treatable it is not curable. I'm sure you already know this. I wasn't ready to let him go so young and opted for 6 months of chemo. He tolerated this pretty well, much better that humans do. He did loose alot of his hair but was still beautiful. The prednisone made him so hungry and he did put on some weight. We were able to keep him cancer free for another 11 months to the day of his last chemo.
The treatment was expensive. I also read every book I could find and fed him totally grain free home cooked food and lots of recommended herbs and supplements. He also had accupuncture treatments throughout his chemo.
Everyone must make their own decisions on how to handle something like this. Like I said it was pretty expensive, in excess of $5000 and I spent a lot of time taking care of him through all this. I can't say I would do the same thing again but I can say that when his time came, I felt I would have done anything in my power to keep him with us. I was not done taking care of him but was ready for what we had to do.

I can't tell you how sorry I am that you have to go through this. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. We did get another boxer within a month of Zeus' diagnosis. We got a beautiful flashy brindle/white female named Zena. She helped all of us get through the really tough times. Hang in there and please let me know if I can answer any of your questions having just gone through this myself.
