Josi, Josi, you need to be a little careful with you food requests. Your mommy is like putty in your paws and can't refuse any of your wishes, so request in moderation, sweet Warrior Princess.
I think some of the board members give their dog a tablespoon of plain canned pumpkin, once or twice a day with their meal, to help reduce diarrhea. It should not be the type that has spices, as in pie filling, just plain canned pumpkin. We here are so happy Josi is still enjoying life's simple pleasures.

Ohh Poor thing. You can give her some immodium. I wanna say 1/2 a tablet. But I would double check with someone else or the vet.

Oh I am so sorry to hear that she has a really upset little tummy. I think she is enjoying the treats more than she is not enjoying the gut problems, but you may need to limit all the "bad" carb goodies just a little. I have no idea about the pepto however. Just want to wish you all a good hump day.

When Dolly had diarrhea I gave her a ratio of 2/3 cooked white rice to 1/3 cooked chicken. I also limited the amount of water she was allowed.

PUMPKIN.
not the pumpking pie filling....with all the spices.
plain "pack" pumpkin in the can. we used to give dakota about a tablespoon or so. it helped him.
i probably wouldn't give pepto....because i think it has some properties similar to aspirin and, in her condition i would be afraid it might irritate her belly further. sounds crazy but i know when i take pepto.........my belly gets funky because i'm sensitive to aspirin. and for some reason i want to say it might be contraindicated for people with bleeding disorders or on blood thinners. i remember my father couldn't take pepto because of another medication he was on but i can't remember now. i don't remember if it was the cumadin (sp?) or something else. and, since he passed away a few years ago. i can't even call him to ask.
poor little girl!!!!! she'll be ok though. get the pumpkin :) it should work nicely.
i guess spoiling her has it's downside, at times.:)

Oh, no, bless her heart. My tummy gets upset if I eat too many things I don't normally eat, too. The plain pumpkin will work wonders. Not sure, though, if you are aware that Pepto makes a children's versions w/o the aspirin. I think it's only in the tablet form which would be easier to give anyway. Immodium, as someone mentioned is also good, and would be your best bet to stop the diarrhea quickly. Call your vet to find out exactly how much to give per pound. I can't remember. You can also use Metamucil to absorb any tummy liquids, but there again, I can't remember how much to give. Be aware, though, that her poo will look very strange with the Metamucil if you should try this.

Sending good zen that Miss Josi will feel better soon, and that mommy will stop caving to all her demands. I know it's hard. You just want your kids to be happy, fur or skin.

I'll check back throughout the day for updates. Got to take an exam.

I have never had good luck with the Imodium. Considering Josi’s condition I’d probably just try fasting her for a few hours and then a really bland diet and see how that goes. Also a small amount a pumpkin won’t hurt. The children’s pepto w/out aspirin may be a good idea.

Feel better Josi!

wow....i never knew there was an aspirin free children's version of pepto. and i never heard of the metamuecil thing either....i'm going to have to look into those two things to have in the future.
i, too, never really had any luck with immodium.
i agree...a blad diet and maybe some pumpkin might be the key here since there is really no way to tell how any of the medications can/will affect her organs at this point and whether or not her little body can metabolize them properly. i may be overthinking things here but i'm always doing that. i can't help it. i always have to consider all things invovled. :) sometimes it may be a bit overkill......but what else can i say? that's just how i am.
hugs to josi....hope your diahrea gets better quickly!

gosh I wish I had read these posts before we listened to vet I am not so fond of at the vets office. he told me i could give her 1 to 2 tsp. every three to four hours so Brian gave her one adult tablet:( I can't stand that vet there and should have listened to my instincts, but what is done is done...but no more. Unfortunately starving her is not really an option due to the fact that she takes 20mg. of pred. a day and she is always starving like right now. I have some rice cooking in the rice cooker now and i will add some chicken to it. I always thought and was told pure pumpkin helped loosen things up which is why we have been giving her some for the past few days b/c they were kinda hard and it did just that. We actually stopped it last night when I noticed her stool was a little soft. I am sorry to be graphic, but they are projectile liquid right now...i feel terrible for her:( I am back home with her now so hopefully we can get this too subside soon...this is the last thing she needs to make her feel yucky!

don't beat yourself up. you're right...what's done is done.
i think the idea with the pumpkin is that it can work both ways. it will bind them up if they have loose stools and/or make things move along if they are bound up. i think the fiber does something to work both ways somehow.
the rice should help bind her up a bit, too. thank goodness the carb-free diet is out the window, huh?
i forgot before but just remembered that cottage cheese and/or yogurt could help with diarhea, too. but at this point, if i were you, i would stick with one remedy and not mix things up too much. like you're already doing...the rice and chicken should help.
gee wiz.......don't ever worry about the "graphic details". the things we talk about in our house are amazing! having three of them plus a cat...one or the other of us is always doing some form of "poop patrol". and forget it if one of them throws up and only one of us is there....the other is always asking "what was in it?" :)
heck...i was just on the phone with the vet this morning about our cat....telling the vet how the cat is pooping outside his litter box, describing his poops as the "consistancy of soft-serve ice cream" (don't know why) and then he tracks it into our bedroom all over bed. can i just tell you i feel like i've been washing our bedding continuously for the last week??????? he'll be 16 in september and any little change that occurs with him...we are on it right away.
so.....don't worry yourself about the pepto or immodium or whatever "adult tab" josi has taken. once you feed her and get her on some chicken and rice....I'm sure she'll be fine.
hugs, as usual.
