Duke's Mom

Staci,

The urn is beautiful and so fitting. You are doing the right thing but discussing your options prior to having to go through this hard experience. My husband & I did the same thing with Duke and it made such a difference when the time came. We had Duke cremated and we had the option of being there but I couldn't bring myself to go. I preferred to remember the happier times and it was hard enough since we had to help him to the bridge. One of the most comforting aspects of helping Duke to the bridge though was that he went so peacefully. He knew it was time.

We have his ashes on our fire place mantel and I ordered a beautiful stone for his backyard. The website is 4pawsforever.org. They donate money to shelters and plant a tree in honor of your pet.

Please keep us updated on the status of Warrior Princess Josi.

Since today is my kids first day off from school I shared some of the posts of Josi and well I think they now have love for Miss Josi also, just like the rest of us here... Her story of courage and her love of life is just so inspiring and how could I pass of the opportunity and not share this with my kids... they are at a good age to understand the circle of life and there's nothing better then to realize you should live every second to it's absolute fullest, so now not only have you shared your Josi-girl with us here on the board but also now her love is spreading through to the next generation... Thank you Staci, if you hadn't have taken the time to come online and tell us about her, and her story, her life and soon to be her legacy then so many of us would NOT have known the love you shared with her...

I pray and OMG! have I prayed so much for Josi,,, I hope it is painless and that somehow she realizes how much we all are loving her... and will continue to love her once she makes that decision to cross over to the bridge... She has many boxer friends to meet up there and I have 2 personally , So I'm confident to say Miss Josi will have lots of days of romping around like a fresh new pup, with endless days and nights of boxer burns and nice cuddly time until she sees her mom and dad again...

I'm so sorry but thankful you are sharing her journey with us... hugs and prayers to you Staci, Brian and Josi-girl our Warrior Princess... a kiss being sent from Rocky...

The urn is absolutely incredible. Actually Josi looks a lot like my Sable. Stay by her and keep giving her anything she wants and anything you know she likes. Praying she will slip away peacfully when the time comes.

That is a beautiful urn, the resemblance to Ms Josi is uncanny. I found my urn for Blaze on Ebay and the resemblace to him was the same way. Everyone thought I took his photo had it glazed onto the urn. It is kind of eerie. I did check Ebay for your urn also and there is one on there if you would like to take a peek here is the link: http://cgi.ebay.com/Dog-Boxer-ears-...VQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1638Q2em118Q2el1247. Sorry I am always hunting for a bargain!

As always you are in our hearts and in our thoughts. Minx sends wiggles to you all.

I love the box/urn you chose for Josi - it's beautiful. We keep our Rocky and Heidi on our mantle one urn on top of the other with their collars w/ tags draped around the boxes. Not a day goes by that we don't think of them or talk about them. Now we have our latest noodle heads and we love them like there's no tomorrow but they don't fill the void left by our amazing Rocky and Heidi.

After Rocky passed we had their portrait done - his passing was so hard on us. Here it is in case you're interested.

Dogs teach us so much - bless you and bless your Josi. Please kiss Josi on the top of her head for me.

It certainly seems as though Josi is mostly comfortable and is enjoying her final days filled with love and kindness. My thoughts are with you guys. You three have a very special bond.

ps I love the urn that you picked.

I know not to have false hope here, but Josi is doing really well this evening and that does bring some tears of joy to me. I came back in the house earlier and I was first greeted by her trotting down the hall to come see me with a kidney bean and kisses. After we fed her dinner, we tried to sit at the table and eat some waffles with her laying beside us. Well that was a negative and she is back up to her old tricks of getting up and resting her chin on our laps so instead of having her stand, we all sat on the floor and ate waffles with syrup together! I also have to say that her swelling does seem to be going down a little as well which must make her feel better, but the bruising on her belly is increasing now from about the bottom of her rib cage all the way down through her belly. I have to tell you all how much it touches me to know that by me putting our journey all out there it has touched and affected a part of your lives. Thank you for inviting us in and it has been our pleasure to take you all along on the roller coaster ride. I am glad everyone liked the urn, now I just have to get it approved by daddy which should be fine since his girls always can get our way, but it is important that he like it as well.

Melissa~The 4paws website is wonderful, thank you for sharing that with me and I plan to purchase a forever gift that comes with a memorial tree.

Tina~Thank you for sharing our story with your children, I am honored. I can feel how hard you have been praying for us and I know your babies will be waiting at the front of the line to romp and play with Josi.

Wendy~I love a good bargain and much appreciate this link b/c it is cheaper than the crematory to special order and I would have never had the time to even think to look somewhere else.

Dbetz~Your portrait of Rocky and Heidi is beautiful and reminds me of a watercolor Josi's grandma painted of her for Christmas. We have yet to have it framed and your picture has reminded me to put this on my to-do list-thank you.

To everyone else that I have not mentioned in this post~please know you are not forgotten and please know that each and everyone of you have played such an intrigual part in our journey and I could not have done it without you all:)

Caroline~The doctors couldn't tell me 100% if she was actively bleeding, but her blood levels continued to rise up till 6hrs. after the transfusion when they last tested so while that is a positive sign I think she probably is atleast seeping, but maybe not flowing...so I would have to assume somewhat stabilized. The only specifics was that her liver and other stomach organs were systemic, but he couldn't tell us exactly whether we had hours or days...just that she belongs home for whatever time she has left. He said that Josi will probably fight it off until the bitter end based on her past battles. All they said was that the transfusion was a temporary band-aid that would make her feel better which is exactly what it has done and as I type we have more "hot lips". I would say we are most definitely at a wait-n-watch stage. I am very curious what the stomach bruising is from though. She has had bleeds before and has never bruised and swelled in the past. I would have thought maybe it was from the ultrasound pressing down on her fluids, but you said Dakota also bruised at the end...do you know from what and what it means?

Gotta go...the spoiled rotten diva is beckoning to be hand feed some chicken:)

We are also thinking of Josi. I know how difficult it can be. Enjoy your time with her. I love that she was into the food!

We lost our Caesar at the beginning of the year and decided to take his ashes back to where he was born. We live in NYC and we took his ashes back to Savannah, GA where we lived when we got him. It was very healing for us to let him run free. Caesar is ready to play!
Here are some pictures. http://www.williambrinson.com/caesar/

The urn you picked is beautiful. Good luck with your little girl.

Just the thought that Ms Josi is enjoying herself with her wonderful family is so comforting. No matter how long the fight continues you will know that she loved every minute of being with you and Brian, and you can always be proud that you all lived every second to the fullest.

You are all truly an inspiration on how to live for love and not for the dreaded future. Thank you, Staci, for being so courageous that you can write your journal even though your heart is breaking. These last few posts have made us all see that the end isn't that - it's just a transition. What an absolutely beautiful way to make an exit. Hopefully there will be many more curtain calls before the beautiful lady sings her song.

It's been an absolute joy for me to have shared these last few months with you all. What a lesson on how to live!!!!! Thank you.
