hi staci
we're back from training class. we've all eaten dinner (boxers included) now we're all wiped out because it was 85 degrees in the training building. hubby and i are totally drained and so are Liam and Moby. me more so. i really don't get along with 100 degree temperatures. i was soaked with perspiration (sorry for the graphic but i really don't like the hot weather. Zuki was the lucky one...she doesn't go to training anymore; she's been retired since she's been 5 :) she stayed home in the A/C and i'm glad to be home now, too....sitting on the couch with the A/C cranking and the laptop (wireless is a wonderful thing!).
happy to see your posts about josi holding her own! every new post from you...i half close my eyes because i'm afraid to read it. but usually, after the first few words....i get the "feel" of the post and sort of know that josi is still with us here on earth. whew!
the bruising....our vet explained it as 'overflow'. he said when there is a significant bleed the blood has nowhere else to go but to the surface since the body can't reabsorb it fast enough....hence the bruising. we always referred to it as bruising....and so did the vet but in my own mind, before we went thru dakota's illness...i always associated a "bruise" with something that was tender/painful to the touch. when i touched dakota's "bruising" it never seemed to be painful. i guess, maybe, they refer to any blood at the surface of the skin as bruising...be it painful, tender or not. the swelling/edema going down i would assume is somewhat of a good thing. the body reabsorbing it, maybe?
i wonder if, like people, the bruising is going to be worse a day or two afterwards. like if you slam your finger in a door...it will be bruised that day but the bruise gets worse before it starts gets better. that's the only thing i could think of.
now that i'm thinking about it...dakota's initial bleeds would cause bruising and it would always look so much worse even after the bleed seemed to subside. i guess before his body worked it out.
i don't think you are having any false hopes! i think you are just relieved that josi is feeling half-way decent enough to beg for waffles!!! i think the waffles on the floor is great!!!! we would do something like that, too.
i have to tell you...you and brian are being as stoic thru this whole ordeal as josi has been. although you are being realistic about josi's condition...it never hurts to find comfort in any sign that she can give you that tells you she is comfortable.
as always.......sending hugs and kisses to josi.
and we fully expect that she receives them x5 (one from me, one from hubby and one each from Zuki, Liam and Moby) :)
will check in again before heading to bed.
lovicon

Dear Staci,
I have been checking on Josi since early this morning, but haven't been able to post anything until now. WOW, if ever a girlie deserved the name Warrior, it is your baby girl!! What spirit! If she is wanting to eat and does, it's clear she wants to stick around, and who can blame her, getting lots of such wonderful yummy food. It also sounds like she is not in any pain which is such a blessing.

It is so gratifying that you have received input from Liamsmom, sharing her Dakota's experience with you - I'm sure it's comforting, having a kind of "point of reference". It's just so hard to really KNOW anything during this time. You're helping Josi so much by just being with her in the moment - that's all there really is.

Breathe her in, memorize the feel of her, every inch - look into those round dark Boxer eyes where she can see herself reflected in your soul.

Sending love, candles are lit.

I have been coming to check on Josi and always end up in tears. I seen the beautiful urn you picked up and well I am just a basket case. I don't know how you can be such a strong person its got to be all the prayers and thoughts sent your way. It always amazes me how boxers can be everyones dog and we share the pain along with you. You guys are also in my prayers and my thoughts are with you. May God keep you close in your days ahead.

Miss Josi, I hope you have a great day today. :) Staci, you are such a strong person, bless you and your family for helping Miss Josi to be such a happy, spirited Boxer. I hope today is a great day for both of you.

I love everyone's suggestions for urns. What a great idea. I did not know there were so many nice tributes out there. I may have to follow suit for my Rotties, Cazzi and Thor. We lost them in 2002 and 2003 and have honestly still got them in the container from the crematory. We have no intention to stay in New Orleans and did not want to bury their ashes and leave them behind, so there thay stayed.

So Miss Josi, what is on the menu today? Besides lots of love and spoiling of course, ;)
