I wish I could post with my decision, but unfortunately we are still in limbo. On the good side Josi's oncologist from NCstate emailed me to discuss her conversation with the oncologist from Charlotte. She agreed that with the zinecard (cardioprotectant drug) Josi would be a good candidate for chemo. She said if it was her own dog with hemangio, she would try it and see how the dog responded and take it from there. If she did well, then continue on...if she didn't, then we either have the option to lessen the dose or discontinue. The other factor is that NCstate is almost half the cost than it is here in Charlotte so we are talking almost a $700 difference per dose. I spoke with her about taking Josi to her for the chemo and asked if a three hour car ride after would be acceptable and she said most definitely. She said generally dogs that are going to have side effects will not exhibit them for 2-5 days after the chemo, so if we do it, we will schedule it on a Wed. so her possible difficult days will fall on the weekend when we can be with her every waking minute. We will also go ahead and do the first round next week if we decide to go thru with chemo, so she will not have another treatment until after the wedding. Speaking of the wedding, we did hear back from Brian's family friend who is in vet school at VTech that he will watch Josi for us while we are away!!!!!!! This is a tremendous weight lifted off of us that not only can we trust him, but if something should not go well, we know she will be in very good hands. Can't get much better of a dog sitter than a third year vet student who happened to just get a boxer puppy of his own. While I wish he could bring the puppy to brighten Josi's spirits, we don't think it is the best idea with the way things are now, but maybe we will be delightfully surprised. Anyhow, I am going to go search the boards for parents who have gone thru chemo and see what info I can find and I will post back later...
