The whole thing is fishy! And no matter wht really happened, it's disgusting!

I don't know, maybe the neighbor stole him out of the yard and gave him to someone he knows at the humane society. It seems a little odd that they would just take a healthy dog to the humane society so quickly.

Call the police and report him as stolen. Dogs are still considered property.

Call the humane society and speak to the board of directors. You might even call a humane society other than the one who says they put him down and speak to their board.

You should take/fax a picture to every vet in an hours drive and say he was stolen. Then maybe someone will recognize him if he comes in for care.

Hopefully the news can do something. If they start poking around people are going to get nervous.

This is absolutely awful! I have a boxer puppy that is 6 months old and I also live in Alabama, I would love to know what town this happened in. ABC 33/40 is the local affiliate here too. Keep us posted on any progress.

Is this Humane Society contracted by your city to handle strays? If so there are rules they must follow. I would also politely contact the mayor and your elected official. Stay calm and explain everything. If that does not bring results continue on to the TV news and newspaper. Keep causing trouble until you get an answer!

Thank you for all the supports and ideas. Unfortanetly Boost did not have a microchip. everytime we try to talk to the people at the humane society they start yelling at us to leave and they're calling the police. Were going to write a letter to the mayor and try to get the paper work on the dog. This is in Jasper Alabama. We truly feel that they sold the dog and put the money in there pocket. He was a beautiful dog with a championship bloodline, so its just doubtfull that they put him down within the first 5 minutes when they had cages full of mixed breeds. We feel that they saw this full bred boxer as a chance to pocket some extra money, and didnt expect us to be there when the doors opened the next morning. Hopefull we will be able to get the news behind us. Thanks again for the support.

I would go back to the facility and try to talk one more time. If they tell you they are going to call the police, calmly leave and stand outside on the nearest public property. While the police are responding call your local newspaper, television station and a local government official. If you are not on their property and not causing a ruckus, seriously what can they do to you? When the police get there, tell them someone stole your dog and you have reason to believe it was taken to this facility and let them know that you demand answers. Personally if it were me I would have a hard time holding my temper but I would camp at their doorstep every single day until someone shows me proof of what really happened. I would also have some sort of proof of ownership. Does your friend have the receipt of their dog license?

This is horrible. I agree with you and the others, Something is wrong with this story. I dont believe they would put down a healthy, friendly, beauftiful dog. I think someone has Boost and hopefully his owner will be able to find him. Sending ~POSITIVE~ vibes that this story has happy ending.

Writing letters will only waste time!!! Call your local representative. You will be able to talk to someone right away and they may even make a call immediately to someone who can cease and assist any pending actions on the dog, like adoption, like theft, etc. You want that shelter to know you aren't going quietly. You want them to bombarded with calls and visits from any and all authorities! The more fuss made about this the more resolution you will get. You must be proactive on this ~ time is wasting! And who ever took your dog from the shelter has time to get rid of him and who knows how far away he will end up. They didn't put him down. No way. There is something amiss here and I would get loud and aggressive until I had answers!

I agree you need to CALL not Write! I would not bother talking to the HS anymore. You need to go above them! This is totally crazy!

This is so awful. I can't believe people at the Humane Society would do such a thing!! They're supposed to be there to HELP us and HELP dogs! This is definitely the craziest thing I've ever heard.

I second this. Stand outside the place (make sure you're in a public spot though, not on THEIR property) and call the police, call the tv station, hand out fliers with a picture of the dog. They will probably threaten to call the police on you, but really they cannot make you leave if you're not on their property.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that you find him. I can't imagine what your friend must be going through :(
