People think my sweet baby is a Pit Bull

How to insult a Pit Bull owner
Yesterday I was walking one of the boys when the neighbor's dog came up to Copper very submissively and tenatatively licked him on the mouth. Copper let him and then the dog was happy and made friends with him. I asked the owner if his dog was a Pit mix. His look said it all when he informed me his dog was 100% Pit Bull, not a mix. I kinda expected him to pick up his dog and run home he was that mortified that I would suggest his dog was a mix!!!!!
As for the T-shirt, I'm thinking one of those Sandwich signs that goes over his back with "Boxer - and Proud of it" on it would get the point across.

I was just about to post to ask the question of "Why do all people who aren't Boxer lovers think that Boxers are Pit Bulls?"
I admit there is a similarity, but it is so annoying. Even educated Pit Bull breeders confuse my baby girl for a Pit.
For example: Last night we were leaving the Pet store with her to get into the car, this woman comes up to us and says, "She is so beautiful, are you planning on showing her or breeding her? Are you planning on cropping her ears?" I told her I don't think we will be cropping or breeding but not sure yet about showing since the evaluater we are working with is hopefull but always waits until the dogs are at least 6 months of age to make a final evaluation on confirmation,etc. She said "oh ok" and started going into the pet store. She then turned around and said, "If you change your mind about cropping her ears I use an excellent vet that crops all of my Pit Bulls' ears for show quality, and does great work with Pit Bulls." By that time she was yelling from at least 50 feet away and we were too annoyed to try and explain to yet again another person that she is a Boxer. The thing here was that she seemed very knowledgeable and obviously was familiar with the pit bull breed. I know Kit is only 11 weeks old but I saw a beautiful white boxer in the pet store and the owner was talking about how everyone thinks he is a Pit Bull, and he was full grown. I don't know. Why do people confuse them so much? Is it because they have similar colorings and markings with the brindles and whites (and fawns too I beleive)? Also I didn't know that people showed Pits. Maybe I just never noticed at the dog shows.

Then I'll get things like, "Oh, well, he must be a mix!?" (Between one or the other)
Most of the time I'll go on to tell them, no...he's purebred...other times...If I can tell they're ignorant...I'll just smirk, give 'em a smart@$$ laugh, roll my eyes, and walk away. I don't feel the need to justify Sirus to anyone.

I went for a walk the other day with Boomer and there was a woman (whose dog was off-leash, not aloud at this park) and she walked over to me and began lecturing me on responsible pet ownership. I started to think... what? I have poop bags, water, a bowl, my dog is on a short leash and is heeling not at all going ahead. So why am I not resposible. Then she went into a lecture about pitbulls and how could I own one. I simply stopped short and said "His name is Boomer, hes 5 months old, super friendly and he's a boxer." She just looked at me and continued on with how hes probably a mix and I was misinformed. Yes ok I'll call the AKC and let them know lady. She followed us for a minute or two and continued on and then I decided to take a different path. It was about 15-20 minutes out of the way but really worth it. She was crazy!

I get that ALL the time as well. It drives me crazy. People are scared of my 2 boxers or some one will come up to me and be like o that's a pretty pitbull. I'm like UGH it's a boxer.

Yes! This is a terrible mix-up and a shame for both breeds.
Our Xena is very friendly and loves children. People are always going away thinking she is a pitbull. We have even thought about putting a sign up with pictures of AKC registered dogs of both breeds and then a picture of Xena saying "And I am a boxer, not a pitbull." See my AKC papers and get it straight.
Also, we think that there should be t-shirts available that say "I am a boxer, not a pitbull." And there should be one for pitbulls that say "I am a pitbull. Love me or leave me alone."
We are looking for a sign now to put on our driveway fence that says, "Boxer Crossing" if anyone knows where to get one because we think this might help the confusion in our neighborhood as well.

personally, i don't think its fair to dislike people because they just don't know better. ignorance is bliss, right? i know that before i delved into the world of dogs, i wouldn't have known the difference! i think that we should just face the facts: boxers and pit bulls look alike!!!! ESPECIALLY now, what with the excessive byb-ing going on with the pit bull (and, to a lesser extent, boxer) breed. badly bred boxers are getting longer muzzles and badly bred pit bulls are getting taller: both are large, both are brindle, and to a person who doesn't know any better (like me, several years ago) they are the same dogs!
i know how annoying it is for people to be frightened of our dogs, and i sure as HECK know how upsetting it is for people to hate our dogs without even getting to know them, but i think that it would be equally stupid and ignorant to go running up to any random dog and give it a great big hug! i DON'T KNOW which (if any) dogs in the dog park are agressive. i don't live with the dog, i don't know if it is a rescue with a bad past, or if it is badly trained, or if it is the biggest sweetie in the world that just wants to love me to death! obviously, people go too far when they simply ASSUME that our dogs are dangerous, but caution is ALWAYS necessary, especially when little kids are involved. sometimes i think that dog owners don't realize that this is what is happening.
so, although some people are truly just rude, stupid, and unwilling to change thier points of view about anything, WE must not assume that just because people are frightened of our dogs, they are rude stupid, and unwilling to change their points of view about anything
