Peanut butter - how much is too much?

Wilson loves nothing more than his kong filled entirely with peanut butter. I was wondering if this is ok. I'd like to put it in his crate to keep him busy while I'm gone.

Thanks!

IMO I would say once in in a while it is for sure okay to do that. But I would put kibble / treats in layers along with the PB. You may find that too much PB can get boring for Wilson after awhile. Give him a nice variety, cream cheese, cheese whiz, chopped carrots, liver pate, broken biscuits and so on. Have fun experimenting for Wilson.

Hey nice ideas Roxanne, thanks :) I wouldn't have thought of liver pate. I'll definitely try that. I actually found out about that kong site today, where they have a ton of receipes for kongs. I am going to try that crushed banana one tomorrow, give him some variety and something healthier.

A kong is rubber snowman shaped form of entertainment for dogs :) It has holes at either end. You stuff it with treats and give it to your dog which will keep him/her busy for hours trying to get all that good stuff out of it. Really good for crated dogs. Check out the kong link above that Dan posted.

Try freezing the Kong, too.

If you make a kind of porridge with regular kibble (add hot water and mush it), then plug the small hole end of the Kong and fill it with the mush, and put it in the freezer, what you take out of the freezer later that day (or next morning) will be close to the consistency of cement :)

Stick a strategic couple of biscuits coming out and it will make the Kong that much more irresistable.

Eventually it will soften, but it definitely slows the process!

Another thought. After using plain old Jiff PB for a couple weeks, it occurred to me to buy a low sugar, low sodium PB. Might be better for the dog if you give PB a lot!

Awesome BeckyNC,

. I don't know why I didn't think of that myself. Maybe a time for a switch for all three of us peanut butter nuts :)

Omg lol I wouldn't have thought of that either - what a wonderful idea Becky! Thanks for the suggestions everyone, I appreciate it :)
