Also, her appetite was out of control. She was constantly begging for food and she would raid the garbage if we forgot to put it outside. !!!
Boy do I know how that is...Zoey acts as if we don't feed her. She can eat about 8 cups of food a day (now that she is on a homemade diet) and still want more! I am going through hamburger, jack mackerel, salmon, and chicken breasts like crazy!!! I go to the store and buy up all of their canned "no salt" green beans, asparagus, spinach, collard greens, mustard greens, etc., ...people think I'm crazy with a cart full of this stuff.

I am so glad to hear that Lola is feeling better, Zoey has major yeast issues but since trying this Seacure and other goodies her body seems to be changing...the yeasty paws are lightening up and her body and ear (yes just the one ear) don't have that yeasty smell anymore. So how does Lola like the homecooked compared to other diets you have tried? Isn't Flagyl an antibiotic? I have to wonder about putting these dogs with comprimised immune systems on antibiotics...how about Prebiotics?

I can almost guarantee that any commerical diet cannot compare to a good homemade diet Zoey has been on homemade for a little over 2 months now and she seems to be coming around.

As for the Seacure, I have the article saved in my archives but don't know how to post it. I wish we could private message... you can always do some research on the internet, that's how I came across the link. I was grasping at straws desperate to find something to help put weight on her...now that I am slowly doing that, I can get back on track with finding out what is causing the pancreatitis.

A1r1ka - don't dismiss what you are thinking about his condition being caused by what he went through at such a young age. (Read my post to Althea about "worried Boxer mama after vaccinations" - I don't mean to toot my own horn but I can't speak loudly enough to these vets about my concerns). My latest holistic vet is being written off as we speak. I asked for him to run a thryoid panel test with Dr. Dodds (W. Jean Dodds) but he isn't interested in doing that...they pretty much told me they will not do it. Holistic vets are pretty scarce in our area but I am lucky enough to have another resource about 40 mins away...and they are willing to establish a relationship and draw the blood for my testing with Dr. Dodds. Persistence - because I know there is a direct link to what is going on with my baby and what happened to her as a puppy. She hasn't been right since. I mean she isn't unhappy or hasn't had a terrible life but her issues she is dealing with would make even a human being a little stir crazy...it's just my gut instinct. There is a definitive reason Papi is not eating...and if it's not pancreatitis it is something related to a higher fat diet...but everything you are explaining makes me believe it is pancreatitis. The only thing with pancreatitis is that it is usually a secondary condition to something else. Since he has had more than one episode, I would think his is considered chronic and not acute? With Chronic pancreatitis there are other GI problems that would need to be ruled out...kind of like what we are going through.

It's a process...hang in there and don't give up! :)

This has been a wonderful thread to follow. My Leah (allergies like crazy) doesn't have this problem that all of you are discussing but this will be a wonderful thread to fall back on if a problem ever arises. I love dialog like this, very informative.
I do have one question for Tina (Denaligirl) Where in WI are you? I would like to have Leah tested by Dr. Dodds and I am afraid I may run into the same problem that you are having. I am sure if I ask for it to be sent to Michigan St it will be fine but I like what Dr. Dodds has to offer. I know you may not be able to give specifics but maybe the vet you are going to use for the blood draw could be near me. I am in south eastern Fond du Lac county. Again, thanks for letting me ask a question and for this informative thread.

First off - Welcome to the thread :) and thanks to a1r1ka for starting this thread!!! I think this is one of best things about Boxerworld. The wonderful community and arsenal of sharing it has to offer.

I am in Kenosha...but we will be traveling to Muskego to visit an "ANIMAL DOCTOR" ;) by the name of Dr. Jodie, I have heard nothing but terrific things about her and am looking forward to meeting her. The last vet wouldn't run the test with Dr. Dodds but was willing to send to Cornell or Michigan St. I said thanks but no thanks...I have specific reasons for wanting to go with Dr. Dodds. Have you been to her website? The hemolife one...very encouraging. They use a new technology (with a patent pending mind you) and their thyroid panel is by far superior to other labs. The fact that she is continously updating her panel to add in multi-facets leads me to surmise she is very dedicated to her work and her cause. Will it help us, I am not sure yet but I believe it can't hurt.

Thanks Tina for the info. I am north of West Bend. I looked at Dr. Dodds website some time ago. Leah has so many problems with allergies and is on different medications that I would like to have a complete thyroid for her file. The last test was the standard one. I want it for peace of mind. I have yet to talk to my vet. I can see his face already :( he will think I am crazy. Oh well. Thanks again.

I bought some Seacure powder (HOLY MOLY that stuff smells strong! And here I thought the Missing Link was icky--NOT EVEN CLOSE!), but I think it's doing good things...the dogs like it a lot, and so that's allowing me to only feed them the low-fat dry food and pretty much skip the wet, so they are benefiting from the powder but also taking in far fewer calories and fat. He's been acting really peppy and his eyes look clearer, so I am curious to see how he does over the next month.

The funny thing, or not so funny, is that I have a chronic stomach disease, too, so I totally get what Papi is going through and I get that you have to think outside the box and go holistic, to a point. They make human and animal Seacure, so I bought both of us some! ;)

Oops...forgive me, I forgot to mention the fact that it's pretty strong stuff! It smells so bad my husband suggested we keep it in a ziploc bag in the container it comes in, which seems to work. But when I put it on her food she does the "feed me dance" right along with alot of whining. Have to say he is definitely coming around more and more each day.

For sure you can take the Seacure!! There really is not a difference in the human to animal Seacure it is just the convenience of having a powdered form you can sprinkle on the food rather than opening the capsules each time and it's a little more cost effective in the 100g & 500g containers. I am hopeful that my husband will try experimenting with it as well. The next time I buy Zoey's powder form I will get him some pills to try. I hope it does wonders for you too...please share that feedback with me if you can. A little info from someone else might help put a bug in his ear.

How long before you noticed a change in the dogs, when did you start them? BTW, watch out for those puppy characteristics to start springing into action with them...Zoey is a fistful of energy and can't get enough play time in.

You mentioned before that it was smelly stuff, so I was prepared, but I hate seafood, so I am just a sissy about this stuff.

Papi started acting more energetic within a few days (maybe 3?), so that was surprising. And he's such a food snob that I really didn't expect that he'd eat the kibble with just the powder on it.

It's made him (or maybe the other dog, I can't tell) a little gassy, but that's a trade-off I am willing to take if he's feeling good.

I haven't started taking my Seacure yet...I wanted to start fresh (get off the cold meds first) so that I can gauge my reaction to it fairly. I am really curious, though...maybe we can all feel a little better, albeit smellier. ;)

Hi Tina and a1r1ka,

Can you please tell me where you purchased your Seacure from? Did you buy it directly from the Proper Nutrition website?

Thank you!

Hi Aimee!!

I purchased the Seacure from evitamins but also noticed they were inexpensive at Harvest Health as well. Had I not needed the other stuff I would have likely gotten it from Harvest Health. It was a significant cost savings to purchase it somewhere other than direct from the Proper Nutrition website.
