Hello,
We had to let our sweet 9 1/2 year old fawn boxer Capone go to the Bridge on 01/12/07. Our hearts are broken. He was healthy and happy until he started going downhill at the beginning of December. He seemed very confused one evening and couldn't remember how to sit or use his back legs to go down the stairs. He seemed fine the next morning, but then started having periods where he would just stare at the floor and not move his head. He was also losing weight. We took him to the Vet and after evaluating him he thought it was a cervical disk problem (xray) and he also heard a heart murmur which we were going to have evaluated. He was started on Deramaxx and it seemed to help him. He was pretty good until after Christmas (his favorite time). He would still have bouts of confusion and staring and his back legs started to get very weak. His blood work was normal. Was still eating well (his favorite human foods), but had stopped drinking as much water as he usually drank. He slept a lot. In my heart, I knew he was dying. We hugged and kissed and petted him as much as we could. Last week he started losing his balance and falling down. He started walking with his front legs spread wide apart and his back legs kept slipping. His disorientation was increasing. He lost control of his bowels 3 times last week. His chest xray showed a large mass in front of his heart and his heart was enlarged. Our Vet was 100% sure he had a brain tumor due to the neurological problems he was exhibiting. I looked into Capone's beautiful big brown eyes and I saw the light had gone out and we knew it was time for him to go. He went so peacefully in our arms while we were kissing and petting him and telling him what a good boy he was and how much we loved him. It was the saddest day of our lives. Our house is so empty and still without him. We haven't stopped crying. We will get his ashes back today. It will be a comfort to us. We have decided we will get another boxer when we're ready. We will never forget or stop loving Capone, our little furry boy.....
