Oskar my 7 year old flashy fawn male all of sudden started to drink much more water daily and has to pee many more times a day. Can someone tell me if this going to be a problem, health wise ? I plan to get him to the vet. Is this a bladder problem or a urine tract problem or a old age problem ? Can I get some input on the subject ?

Dogs can get diabetes which I am sure your vet will check him for. Is he losing any weight? I'll say a little prayer for him -- let us know what the vet says :)

Lady drinks alot also

That is an interesting topic. My boxer Lady is 9 yrs old and in great health so the vet says for a boxer. She has also started to drink alot of water lately and we can not figure out why but she holds it really long and has had a few accidents because she is too stubborn to go outside some days. Lol
We now have to limit her water in take before bed.

Excessive drinking and urinating can be a sign of kidney problems. A trip to the vet would be warranted.

Thank for all the info, I will be going to the vet. Now I need some info on dog food. I feed Sensible Choice dog food and thinking it's salty or something, which I think makes him drink more water. I've allways used Sensible Choice, because I thought It was a good food. My other Boxer "Bugsy" always ate it, but he crossed the bridge in 2001. He died from swollen Liphnotes. I'm hearing alot about the Purina Pro. I always thought buying expensive food at a pet store was better than buying a less expensive food a grocery store. I have been hearing about Purina Pro and it doesn't sound bad. What is a good food? I don't think I like the B.A.R.F. idea of feeding.

Regarding the excessive drinking issue...has your dog had any recent surgeries? My dog has a heart condition and whenever I bring her home after a surgery, she's drinking non-stop. Are you located in a colder region? Sometimes colder weather can cause them to drink more. Like the other person said, excessive drinking can be a diabetes issue also. Make sure your vet tests for this. Call ahead to see about fasting your dog before taking him.

I have heard a lot of good things about Purina Pro also. I tried it a while back and it gave my dog really bad gas. LOL Nutrition-wise I think it's a pretty solid food. If it doesn't give your dog gas, then I would use it.

So, did you find out what was the problem with Oskar and drinking/peeing much?
About food I would suggest you to cehck it out the Food forum for the good foods, all the one's that have good sources of protein and very little or no grain would be the best.
I don't remember anybody recomending Purina. I think has a lot of grains including corn and wheat that are culprit in allergies, and are bad for dogs.

Just wanted to know what you found out form the vet? Excessive peeing/drinking or pu/pd is usually a sign of diabetes and at 7 years old that makes it even more of a possibility

Regarding the excessive drinking... yes take him to a Vet... but also, have you changed anything in his treats? Like giving him rawhide or pigs ears, or anything else with a lot of sodium content? That can create extra thirst.

As for a good food - if you do a search on the feeding forum you'll find a TON of info on good foods. I switched from Eukanuba to Merrick and can't believe the difference it made in Guinness' coat, and also he is pooping much less, eating a bit less (as the food is better quality - he needs less to get his nutrition requirements met). I'd suggest trying Merrick. Pet Supplies Plus has it, also Friends of Nature on Main Street out in Menomonee Falls (just off Hwy 45).

If you ever want to set up a boxer play date let me know! I'm right here in Milwaukee too. ;)
