Jeff... I am so sorry to hear about Orson. You did everything you could and he knows that. You are a great boxer daddy.

Jeff-

It's almost midnight here and I can barely type this through my tears...I literally just got up from the computer bawling and picked up my little foster boy Mason and dragged him into the den with me so I can hold on to a little nubby body while I type. In doing that, Gabe, my other foster, and my two Molly and Tyson of course followed and just looking at them getting up from their cozy beds to be with me while I'm crying is just making me cry more cuz that's what it's all about, isn't it? They just give and give and here I am thinking of you and your hurt and Orson and here they are thinking of ME, not caring about their sleep...They just know they're going to give me the nub wiggles and kisses that I need right now... You are right, they are so unselfish and love so unconditionally. Just looking into their eyes you see it all. I see things in Gabe's eyes especially as I wonder where he's been through his life...he has such a deep soul and he literally seems to just melt you down to a place where all you can do is hold his head and rest your forehead on his and he just sighs and I know that it's ME that has been blessed.

I am moved by your love and ache for you as I wonder myself how I'll ever in all my life be able to handle losing these sweet little beings. Thank you for reminding me not to take even a second for granted and thank you for loving Orson in a way that makes us all want to be a better Mommy or Daddy to our little ones.

We're here anytime--we're family.

Jeff I freaked out the same way you did at the vet. Most of us do. We would all like to be brave and suck it up but sometimes that just isn't possible. When my Caesar took his last breath I gasped super loud and almost fainted. They asked me if I needed a chair. I was also hysterical. The vet's office was crowded and when I finally walked out the door to leave the entire waiting room was filled with crying people. Caesar was my baby in the same way Orson was yours. He was my best friend, always there for me when I was sad, followed me everywhere exising soley to get belly rubs and give kisses. When he got cancer I did everything I coud possibly do. When I knew I had to let him go, that he was ready, I wasn't. But I did what I had to because the thought of him suffering was unbearable.

I still think of him every day. I have his picture and picked out a very manly urn (he was a very macho boy) I thought he would like. I say goodnight and goodmorning to them always. I second guessed myself alot on the decision to let him go. Like you I had everyone one in the vets office telling me I was doing the right thing and that he wasn't getting any better but it didn't help.

It does get easier as time passes. Of course I have been crying all night reading these posts and think of all our sweet babies at the bridge - but hang in there. We are all here for you and unfortunately a good many of us have been through what you are going through.

Jeff, Orson going on has left a very big hole in your heart. It's as though it's almost too intense to feel right now. You have given a wonderful tribute to your baby, one that is a wonderful testament to the power of love. Isn't it amazing how we can learn life lessons of such magnitude from one of God's small furry creatures? I really have to go hug Scrapper as soon as I finish writing this...

But I want to say I'm so very sorry Orson has gone ahead and you are in pain, but he will be waiting for you when you get there someday. I was following your earlier threads about Orson's chemo and was so sad to read tonight that he had passed.

Best wishes,
Genie

Jeff,

I haven't been on this board long but I have been following your story with Orson and hoping for the best. I sit here writing through my tears. Reading this is tearing my heart up so I can't imagine being in your shoes. But I want you to know that Orson couldn't have had a better daddy and the ten years he was here on earth he had a VERY good life. I admire you for holding on with him to the end. Many would have given up a long time ago. This isn't going to help but he isn't suffereing anymore and he is at peace. I have two boxer babies myself. And this has come to make me realize that one day too i will have to be in a situation where I will have to say goodbye. My oldest has a tumor and it scares me to death to think of what may happen.

I send you lots of love and hope in your time of need and to Orson the strong fighter he was i hope he rests in peace....

Jeff, I'm so sorry for your lost. I hope that in time you'll be able to find some peace and know that you loved Orson well and did all that you could for him. I'm glad that you found Boxerworld. The wonderful thing about the people on this board is that we "get it" when it comes to our pets. I'm sure you already have encountered people who didn't understand why you would spend so much time and energy trying to save a sick dog, and unfortunately you'll encounter people in the coming weeks who just won't understand why you are struggling so much in this difficult time...but when you feel hurt and frustrated by those people, come back here. We get it. We know Orson is your family and that losing him is as hard as losing any other well loved family member. You can add me to the list of people now crying for a dog we never got to meet in person but have been privileged to know through your words.

Jeff,
I am so sorry for your loss. You can tell by how you speak that you were a great Dad and how much love the two of you shared.

I can never imagine what you have been through, but please know you are in my prayers, to give you strength to pull through this. I know Orson is looking down on you and will give you the strength..and know now that Orson is not suffering and in pain.

jeff,

i too have not been here very long but followed your story and i cannot even begin to express how very sorry i am for your loss.

i cannot imagine what you are going through, but know that you are in our prayers and thoughts...and know that Orson will always be by your side, because he will always be in your heart. he is what made your heart smile, and your soul dance...and that is something you never forget or let go of...

and Orson too will always remember you, for you are a part of who he is...and because of your memories of him, he will always be at your side. for you are his master, the one who gave all you could for him...
you made HIS heart smile and HIS soul dance...and brought to him the most joyous and happy times he will ever remember...

he has crossed the rainbow bridge where happiness is forever...boxer kisses and butt wiggles...and he waits for you...his loyalty is neverending, just as the bond you share...

Godspeed to Orson...

thoughts and prayers to you in your time of need...
