I don't dog sit but a suggestion would be to ask her to make a donation to the local shelter weekly to help buy something small like a bag of dogfood. that would help other critters in what could have been the same situation with Roscoe. it would only be around $20 or $30.

Sharon your such a good person. Your doing a wonderful thing for your friend. I would have done the same thing. It may get a little tuff for you but will be worth it in the end.

I think that is a great idea! If you didn't want any money for watching the little buy and she insists on paying, what better way to help the poor shelter animals? Great idea presley!

Sharon, you are an absolute angel....I can't think of anyone better to do the job than you...You friend is so lucky to have you...Sounds like you are in for a busy time...Mmm..any chance you can fly to England to help with a woman on crutches, and a mad Boxer while I recuperate from my op? :)

Awww, shucks Marion, it ain't nothing. :o I told my mom on Thursday what I was doing and I got the concerned motherly lecture, "Sharon, you have too much on your plate".."you're going to get attached"..."the kids are going to get attached", and so on. She stopped by yesterday and instantly fell in love! She left saying "well, if it gets' too much for you I will take him in for awhile"!! Ya...mom who babysits skin kids full time (she's 67), volunteers 3 days a week for the seniors club and every Saturday at the local thrift store/food bank, PLUS she's owned by 2 boxers as well, and I have too much on my plate!!
I would fly to England in a heartbeat, in fact, I'll look into a passport ASAP. Oh, but wait! What if my passport pic makes my head too big? Will they let me out of the country?? ;)

Stupid question - but when is a dog "potty-trained"? Is it when you clue into them and take them out all at the right times - or is it when they tell you they have to go?

Chloe is 5 months - she doesn't tell us when she has to go yet - but she doesn't have accidents unless we don't take her out.

10 weeks is pretty young - how long will it take to "potty-train"?

Very good question!! My Xena was potty trained completely by 17wks!! She's a brilliant gal, truly! Spirit still has the odd accident around the house (which I often wonder if he does out of spite evilicon ) and he will be 2 next month. I believe pups are similar to children with regards to "everyone is different". I told her that I would help with the crate training and potty training with respect to setting up a routine for him. This way, when his mom is well again, he would at least have a schedule that she can follow, and she would be well enough to be consistent. I "expected" to have him here with us for at least 1 month.
An update on Roscoe...His name has been changed to Storm. He is a funny little character! He follows Xena around everywhere, her little sidekick. She hasn't much tolerance for pesky puppy play and will let him know. She, however, welcomes all downtime with respect to cuddling and snuggling. Storm wakes up in the morning when I do at 6:30. I let him out of his crate and first thing he does is, cautiously, walk to Spirts crate (he's crated since our new house guest) sniffs and will wiggle him a "good'mornin Spirit" and bounces off to Xena, who is snoring on her bed. He stands over her and licks her ears and barks at her "mornin Xena!". Xena stretches, yawns, stands up, turns around and lays down with her back to him. He's like "OK...I'll getchya later then", and down the stairs he goes. I'll open the back door and he goes right out and does his business. I'm now trained to know that he COMPLETES his business 15 minutes after he comes back in! I'm starting to recognize his body language and know when he needs to go outside. It's a start.
I have a bad feeling that Storms' mom is not going to be able to handle the commitment. I don't think that, with her health concerns, she will be able to provide Storm with the attention he is going to need. When she sees Storm, she seems detached from him, almost like she's trying not to get too close to him. How unfortunate for her to get sick like this immediately after Storm comes in to her life. :(

Well, Storm is in a new home now. His new owners came to pick him up yesterday afternoon. It happened so fast. One minute he was sleeping soundly in his crate, I get a phone call and within 20 minutes, he was gone! Sadly, my daughter was in school and did not have the opportunity to say goodbye to him. She was prepared for this, but she still would have liked to say goodbye. She cried of course, and was concerned that the new owners would change their minds and bring him to the pound. I assured her that they have our phone # and will call us if it doesn't work out with Storm. I feel happy for Storm because they seemed like real genuine boxer-loving humans and the husband impressed me with his knowledge of the breed and his experience with training (he's all for crate training!).
Yes, I did get attached to Storm..we all did, but how can we not? He was with us for 8 days and was very comfortable here..he LOVED Xena!! Would I do it again? You bet!! My friend was desperate enough to think of the shelter as an option and I hated that thought, so I offered, and it all worked out in the end for Storm! :)
Storm, enjoy your new home lil'buddy!! I know your humans are going to love and spoil you rotten!! I hope that I get the chance to see you again one day. We miss you already, but are comforted with the knowledge that you are in a loving forever home! :)

What Happened I thought you were just keeping Storm to potty train, and that his owner was taking him back? Did she change her mind? were did the new owners come from? How come you didn't have a chance to keep him?
