Oh My, What Have I Done!

So, I posted a while ago about a new boxer puppy in the neighborhood named Oskar. And I also mentioned his brother Roscoe, owned by my neighbors friend. Well, turns out my neighbors friend is quite ill. Her illness requires surgery and a lengthy recovery. She lives alone. Can you see where this is going? So, today she was fretting about Roscoe and how unfair this is to him. She's in the midst of potty training him but now she can barely walk. She mentioned surrendering him to the shelter!! So, me who wears my heart on my sleeve, tells her that if it's just a matter of potty training him, I will do it for her but ONLY if potty training is the issue. However, if it's an issue of just wanting a "pre-trained" dog, than it would be best for Roscoe to be re homed with someone who has the time and the willingness to commit. She assured me that she wants him desperately, but is only concerned with the next few weeks. So...here I am, with Roscoe as a temporary house guest. He lives too far away for me to get to him everyday, so he will stay here for a little while. Xena loves him, has let him pounce all over her, but only to a certain degree then she takes him down a peg or 2. Spirit is crated while the pup is not and vice versa. It will take him a while I think to like or accept the pup.
So, please tell me I'm not crazy. I feel like I might be. If you could see this lil' face, I'm sure you all would have done the same thing...right?

Do you think you will be able to give him back? Will you get too attatched?
What if she dosen't want him back? So many questions I would get attached for sure.

i would have done the same thing but like the others said it will be hard to give him back but maybe you will be able to visit him.

i offered to take a boxer who i hadn't even seen whose owner was going to shoot her (she was only 18mths old) because he was moving and didn't have room for her i told my workmate who knew him to go get her and i would take her and find her a home or surrender her to the RSPCA if it came to that anything other than leaving her to be shot, well as it turned out i never got her Phil (workmate) took one of his mates with him to get her and then they both wanted her so she now has a good home with his mate - phil already has 2 boxers also but we weren't going to let the a## shoot this baby if we could help it so to take care of someones pup and help potty train i probable won't have thought twice either.

it seems so strange to me to even think like this because 5 yrs ago before meeting hubby i didn't even like or want to own pets and now hubby and i want to win the lotto buy a property and set up boarding kennels for boxers to come have a holiday with us or for the strays that need rehoming who would have thought the love of 3 beautiful boxers could change me so much

Nah, you're not crazy at all. I have puppy-sat a couple of times; maybe not for that long a time but I would absolutely do it again.

Well, they say what goes around comes around. I remember getting sick and having to leave by ambulance for the hospital on several occasions. On 2 of those occasions, all I could do was fret about the fur-kids. I knew the skin-kids were being looked after...away from home, so the dogs were alone, which they are not use to. :(
It's very hard to concentrate on a recovery for yourself when you're stressing about anything. I would like to know that my pups were being looked after if ever in case of an emergency. :)
I forgot to mention, Roscoe is 9wks old fawn/flashy handsome-as-all-get-out! He peed on the floor twice, but I'm just getting to know his body language. :o
As for getting attached, yes..probably, but, I'm doing it for Roscoe too. I'll still get to see him a lot! :)

Sharon you are not nuts...if you are then alot of members here are including myself. After all isn't that what we aim for here "insanity" Have fun with Roscoe and I hope that you don't get too attached also, it would be very hard to do as cute as these guys are.

I want to mention that Roscoe's mom insists on paying me for looking after him during this period that he stays here with me. I can't say for sure how long I will have him as I guess that will depend on his potty training progress and her recovery. So she wants to pay me weekly and has asked me to come up with a figure. She is supplying all his needs...crate, food, treats, toys, etc.. The daily routine will involve crate training, potty training and basics (PLAY, cuddle, love, PLAY). I never had any intentions of taking money for this, in fact, it wasn't even a thought. My friend wants to pay me and I have no clue what to charge. So, if there is anyone out there who is in the business of dog-sitting, what would be a fair "fee"? I'm curious too because this has always been a business interest for me that I would be definitely interested in pursuing. What is the going cost of dog-sitting?
**Roscoe is 10wks old and not potty trained yet.**
