Wow, that is a tough schedule (almost like having a newborn baby in the house with the getting no sleep), but soooo glad to see that Cami is doing better. Can you at least squeeze in a nap?

So nice to hear about Cami doing better! Now that shes home, I'm sure she feels great as well. Gigi had steak yesterday too. We never normally give her heavy meat, she's always been on chicken, but yesterday she was looking at me so longingly that I gave her a small bit from my burger. I don't think she even got the taste of it coz she swallowed it all! They're such sweet babies.

Big sloppy kisses to Cami from us. :)

Great news about Cami!!!!! What a love bug!!!! Thank you to the both of you for providing such informative posts. They really inspire and help many of us on this board. I will continue to keep all of you in our prayers. What an ordeal but as I know and can read Cami is certainly lucky when they dealt her the "parent" cards. My heart is definitely full of love and hope for the best outcome!

I was reading through some of your older posts and noticed some very similar issues (with the exception of the hives and mange) between our dogs from a very young age. Not sure if it's just plain coincidence or not but I will be doing further research to try and pinpoint what exactly is going on with my Zoey. The vet's don't seem to think she has a thyroid issue...said exactly this..."Zoey is not the picture of a 'thyroid' dog..." Do you have any idea as to what exactly a 'thyroid' dog is? From my readings of W. Jean Dodds she seems to have it nailed on the head that it can afflict any dog regardless of what the symptoms are and they seem to be directly related to vaccinosis. Do you share any of those opinions?

I don't know if any of Cami's illnesses were/are caused by vaccines. I do know that she had her full set of puppy shots and that has been all. That being said she had terribly bad reactions to them (at least the ones that we had done after the breeder did the initial rounds). She did have a total of two rabies vaccines. One as soon as she was old enough and it was the "yearly" version. The 2nd was at age 1 and it was the "3 year version". No more of those either. Hard battle to get that OK'ed by the health
department though. YIKES! That is a story for another day.

I have been bombarded in recent days with information and my head is spinning. I learned (or was told by the cardio) that the same heart issue Cami has is seen often in dogs with thyroid problems. However.....she has Boxer cardiomyopathy (ARVC) and thyroid issues are common in Boxers. So one can look at it two different ways. It is a "Boxer thing" or there is some correlation between thyroid issues and a specific heart condition. I do know that her cousin (same grandfather) who is a year younger developed mast cell cancer. Then she developed thyroid issues. So far (knock on lots of wood) she has not shown any heart issues.

There are at least 50 different thyroid "symptoms". Any dog can have any of the symptoms. Cami didn't present as a "thyroid dog". She lost weight instead of gained and that was one of the things that her regular vet didn't want to wrap his head around. Her traditional thyroid tests were well within normal ranges. As far as her regular vet, her cardio and oncologist were concerned she did NOT have hypothyroidism. If I had not pushed for a full blood panel she would not have been diagnosed with thyroiditis. Two different labs verified this. I am glad I stuck to my guns. Once on meds it made a huge difference in her.

Cami didn't seem to make any progress today as she has been doing over the past week. I don't know if she didn't feel well but she certainly seemed a little gloomy. Still sleeping about 20 hours a day. I don't know how long to think that the sleeping and extreme tiredness can be attributed to her ordeal or medications...and not something worse. I myself am growing more and more tired with each day. It is so very hard to be totally consumed by one thing. Other areas of our lives (more so mine) are being pushed aside for another day. They will still be there when I have time to get to them.

She whined, pawed at me and pouted. It was AWESOME! She wanted a new bully stick so she got one. I have stepped on no less than 20 of those smelly things over the past few days. Fine by me. Just a constant reminder that my girl is still here with me.

My eyes are growing heavy and it is time for the last round of her meds for the day. Here is to an uneventful night and rest for us all. sleepicon

We're still praying for Cami to get well and for you to stay well. I hope you can squeeze a 20 min power nap somewhere in your day. I know sometimes it can do wonders.

Zoey had her typical puppy shots...first round by breeder, 2nd and 3rd rounds with us...although she also had her rabies shots at the same time as her last round of vaccines and had a very bad reaction. Since that time she had a "yearly" version of the rabies at 1 and the typical "3 year version" at 2. Again with bad reactions... after that time I insisted on no further vaccinations including rabies... and I know what you mean about the health department... but from 16 wks she has had chronic vaginitis (so many vets visits to different vets and not one of them could pinpoint or come up with an explanation - I have always attributed it to vaccinosis, one vet wanted to preform "cosmetic" surgery to fix her flap even though he admitted she would likely grow into it!!!), yeasty paws and ears, a bout of kennel cough (caught at a doggie daycare - needless to say that was another case in time where the vet said WOW this is about the worst case I've seen), digestive issues ranging from vomiting to diarrhea (and recently pancreatitis) are just to name a few...plus she has always had trouble gaining weight, not obese (some people say she is too skinny)...just oddly similar experiences... I know right now your main priority is the here and now...which is how it should be! But I just wanted to point out these similiarities...has Cami ever had pancreatitis?

Bless your soul Susi...I thank my lucky stars every day that my ankle nearly breaks because I wake up and step on one of her many Kongs or toys laying around the house. It is quite amazing what they bring to our lives. I hope your evening was uneventful and that rest found it's way....hang in there! May you find an opportunity to breathe in the "Boxer" smells of Cami and let that help you "dog" nap. :) To me that is such a comforting smell...my step-son thinks I'm crazy but I think it's just a heavenly way to drift off...

Cami hasn't ever had pancreatitis. She did suffer from vaginitis as a pup though and once spayed that problem was a moot point.
Never had a yeast infection however she is allergic to her own yeast....(allergy testing). Go figure.

Went to head off to bed last night and she decided that she had slept enough. She spent the next hour and a half PLAYING and doing everything in her power to get me to join in. I swear if I had been able to locate any toothpicks I would have used them to keep my eyeballs open! After many attempts at luring her into bed with her daddy she finally settled in for the night at 1:30 early this morning. Of course I had then gotten my 5th or 6th wind and tossed and turned on the couch until the alarm started screeching at 5:30 this morning!

She seemed a little more energetic today. Took multiple naps instead of just going to sleep and staying that way for hours. She helped her daddy shovel the back patio. Well he shoveled and she did her very best deer impression in the snow.

Can't wait til Friday's cardio appt. I am hoping for nothing but good news and for her to come home with a holter. They can get a true reading that way versus the EKG.

I just love it, like I said before we have to love what they bring to our lives - it's never a dull moment with our loving Boxers :) ... Yippee Cami was feeling a little spunky!!!! Also good to hear she had a little more energy today. Sometimes that's all a body needs is some rest, human or dog... Now it's time for your rest...I keep hoping you will get some. Your health also needs to be tended to. But it sounds like you are like me and everyone else comes first, especially our babies.

When you say deer impression it makes me think of what I say when Zoey is running around like an antelope.

Again...I LOVE IT!!!! Thanks for the smiles and hopefully you can smile a little easier today :) One moment at a time and cherish the moments we have...today is a present isn't it?
