Not a "Happy" New Year

Cami

Boxer Insane
Visited with Cami this morning and got her to eat a little food. Anything is better than nothing. She was happy to see me and wanted to leave.

Increased doses of meds are not working. Will increase Dilacor once more in the hopes that we see some improvement. Will know within 8 hours (hopefully sooner). After that our options are limited.

It's pretty much unheard of for a dog to go in and out of a-fib yet Cami has been doing so and switching to her dreaded SVT's. Back and forth. Meds needed for one make the other worse. It's like fighting a losing battle.

If she would stay in a-fib in theory you give meds to keep the rate down and they live with it. But the stupid SVT's keep rearing their ugly head.

Doc is going to do some research today in the hopes that she comes across something.

All I can do is pray that the meds work and that Cami's heart responds to them.

I am not ready to lose her. She would just wreak havoc at The Rainbow Bridge. She is just too ornery. God should rethink his plans for taking her back home. She does so much good here with us.

Keep the prayers coming. He heard them once before and allowed her to come home with us.

Got to hang out with Cami this morning. She wouldn't eat any of her food but pretty much licked the small container clean of peanut butter I brought for her and too many empty pill pockets to count. At least she got a few calories.

Yesterday and last night was probably the longest 24 hours I have ever had to endure. I literally sat for 8 hours in her chair...with one of her beds in my lap.....my land line phone in one hand and my cell in the other....willing neither of them to ring. No news was good news so the phone ringing was one of my worst nightmares. I called the ICU at 11:30pm last night to check on her and was so filled with fear after that to call again that I didn't. I didn't want to hear any bad news. Got through the night without that dreaded phone call.

We had nearly a foot of snow yesterday on top of the other foot or or ever knows how much outside and in a different mindset I would be over the moon. I really enjoy snow. It is beautiful and I just wish I was in a better place and could enjoy it.

The news for today is:
The reintroduction of the Sotalol with the other 4 heart meds and an increase in Lasix given through an IV has gotten her rate down to 180-190. Still high but better than it was. What is going on now is that she is having longer periods of a lower rate. That is good. Still nowhere near normal but progress all the same. I know the repercussions of the heart even beating at that increased rate is making the congestive heart failure worse (more fluids in lungs). The Sotalol is also not good for a patient in CHF but it was the lesser of two evils. A higher rate was doing the same thing.

They are taking another set of films today of her chest. *IF* the fluids are gone..........SHE IS COMING HOME.

I would like nothing more than for her to be home where she can rest comfortably....no matter for how long. Even though we hold out hope the results of the tests will be the final answer. No getting around that.

I got her out to potty twice in the 45 mins that I was able to spend with her. She went potty #1 for such a longggg time. Weird to see since that isn't normal for her. She also went potty #2 which she had not done since Saturday. It was not normal but it wasn't diarrhea either and it had been. Again something else to be happy about but then again it had been in there for a long time!!

I spent a long time this morning shoveling her paths in the backyard since they were all filled in again from yesterdays snow. I located some paws thaw (pet safe ice melt) and am heading there now to pick it up. Our back patio has about 4 inches of ice on it and I don't want her to slip.

I pray my next post is to inform all of Cami's BW friends that she is crashed out on the couch. She has already proved the docs wrong too many times to count. I hope she has another trick up her sleeve and can do it again.

I swear that I do not know where she gets her strength and courage her determination and drive. I guess one good thing about a Boxer's stubbornness is that they like to have the last word.
