Noel has a brain tumor...

Thanks all. She's been on the prednisone (or as we like to call them, "super-dog pills") for 5 days now. What a difference. I was thinking I might call the doc on Monday and see if we might reduce the dosage a little--I just worry about the effect of the drugs on her organs, and the drug seems to be working extremely well. Her eyes have cleared up nicely and all her symptoms are quiet now. She is super hungry and thirsty, as promised..and urinating a lot. I got a nice call today from Noel's "rescue family" at Boxer Rebound. I had sent them a note to let them know of Noel's condition. They gave me some good advice and support and asked that I keep them informed. Meanwhile, our other boxer, Fred, has been getting a little jealous of all the extra attention Noel has been getting...so they have been racing to my lap when I sit down, LOL..I do think Fred knows something is up, and has been extra gentle around his sister.

We're coming up on one month since we started treating Noel with the prednisone. Happy to report that things continue to go well. She has not had any more head tremors and still has good energy-but the superdog effect has worn down somewhat. Her one eye is still drooping slightly. An upside to the prednisone is that her skin allergy problems are almost non-existent. It is so nice to see her with a full beautiful coat and no itching! I am just so thankful for this time we have! Thank you for your continued prayers and thoughts!

Every cloud has a sliver lining , it must be a relief for her not to have any allergy issues .. I am glad that the meds are doing their job and long may it last !!

With Christmas coming up I wanted to update on Noel, who has special ties to the holiday. The rescue who saved her from her life as a puppy mill momma did so at Christmas time and so named her Noel. We had lost our boxer Lucy that same Christmas and could not think of a more fitting name for our sweet new boxer. Noel is doing ok, but the tumor is probably growing...we had her back to the specialist yesterday and her right eye is no longer properly dilating and that eye is really drooping and she is a little clumsey in walking. We have increased the predinisone and that is keeping her active for now. Her appetite is still very healthy and her mood seems good. No seizures or head tremors that we have seen. They wanted to do a full blood work up ($200+)....hubby did a good job of declining. No matter what the outcome of the blood work, the prognosis and treatment would remain the same. The doctor was not too optimistic on how much time Noel may have left..citing the eye issues as a key indication of the tumor. I am thankful we will spend Christmas together. I just love having this little pointy eared girl snuggled up on my lap! Merry Christmas all! Noel!
