Don't lose hope

Your puppy should be perfectly fine if you do these things..... She will need lots of love and cuddling... and she will sleep most of the time until she is about 7 or 8 weeks. Enjoy it now, as she will be awake most of the time soon enough....... :-} I really don't think you have anything to worry about..... just keep a close eye on her

Thank you very much with the advice. I did find that she likes to be held and cuddled and be with someone. I kinda picked up on that since she is very young and looking for some comfort.

Now, I am just feeding her puppy food, but i will definitely get the mothers milk from our local pet store and bottle feed her for awhile as well. Is there a brand out there that is really good?

I will also try the agenda book and track her. She does well and lets me know when she wants something. I'll let you all know the outcome in a couple of weeks.

Thanks.

Duke slept for two hours and then was awake for maybe 15 minutes. We were able to figure out his schedule since someone was with him at all times. You will know after you have him for a while what he does.

I don't know for sure but I remember reading that around 4 weeks puppies were switched to soft food. Maybe that is completely wrong but that is what I recall reading in the forums. Duke was fed food that had been soaking in water when we first got him. It was almost like mush. I have also read that people use blenders for the food.

Feel free to pm with any questions. I know once I realized he was too young to buy I was nervous...I am still a nervous mom at 9 months! I was even nervous with Cody at 11 years!

Proper nutrients

Puppies do start to eat puppy foos about 4 weeks..... However, it would not be strictly puppy food. They should be allowed to nibble at the food when ever they want. However, the milk supplement will be able to provide the proper balance of nutrients that they would otherwise receive from the mother. I know that my puppy was sort of in the same boat as boxernala, even though she stayed with her parents till 6 weeks, the mother didn't want to have too much to do with the pups. She wouldn't even lay down for the puppies to feed, they had to fight at each other for milk. So, the breeders bottle fed them with this supplement, and now, actually today is her 3 month birthday, she is doing super. I know most parents want to do all they can to ensure a healthy start for they're young one. So the supplemental milk is a choice or preference.

Another thing, if you choose, you can mix the milk supplement with the food instead of water....... My puppy thrived on this as well.... :) Hope this gives you some options..... Will be looking forward to an update, you will see her grow so fast its unbeleivable.... don't close your eyes for a second!

Hope you all have a Merry Christmas!

She'll need lots of cuddling -- puppies tend to sleep in a big old pile, and she won't have anybody but you to pile on! So take her in your lap and cuddle away until she sleeps. You can move her then if you must.

To Doja's Mommy :)

Thanks for the words and support. I as well thrive to give my best to Nala and actually today, I purchased goat milk (supplement mothers milk) at Petsmart and boy it was not cheap! I only bought one can to see if she would drink it.

As soon as I got home, I fed her some milk with a syringe and I felt so great! She was drinking it all and couldn't have enough of it. She wasn't taking any water before and I am so glad she is drinking something. :) Now, I felt like her MOMMY! Awwww.

She's doing great and she is learning to stay in her crate. She sleeps with me at nites still until she gets a little older and I transfer her back to her crate once she's dozed off. If I don't, she is right on my neck spread eagle! She just love being cuddled I guess.

Well, thanks again, and I wouldn't know what to do without this forum. Good Nite from Abegail and Nala. I'll post pics soon. Right now, I have KodaK Pics and its too large to be downloaded...any other ideas on how I can post from digital? I'd love to show her off!

Nite Nite

Happy to help!

I know that stuff is not cheap... But it will all be worth it in the end. You only have to do it for a week or two so, in the end, the benefits will out weigh what ever the cost may be. Take a lot of pictures, as soon, she will be twice her size..... u can never have too many.....

As for loading pics... you will need to change the size format.... I downloaded a program that allowed me to downsize Dojas pic... let me see if I can paste the link..... be back.....
