hello!
first off I just wanted to say hi and I'm glad you found boxerworld. there's a lot of great stuff on this site and a lot of great people.
now if I read correctly you're a stay at home mom? if so that'll be great for you to be able to be around her 24/7.
how many kids do you have, I was wondering if it might be possible to even get them to lie down with the pup and pretend to be her littermates. let her climb all over them and snuggle up with them as well.

Yes I am a SAHM and I have two boys. One soon to be six years and the other in his terrible twos!
They play with her but I have to make sure I'm around as well. Sometimes its hard to explain that "puppies" are not toys and they need rest as well. If I let them, they will play with her all the time.
We have play time with Nala and she loves it. She is a little more active now and aware of her sorroundings at all times.

I'm also new to this forum and I just noticed all the information available, and all the great people who also loves this noble dogs.
I also had my puppy, Tilo, when he was 4 weeks old. His mother wasn't able to feed the litter, so the breeder was taking care.
It's been 2 weeks since then and he had been thriving well, with someone with him all the time, very warm with his baby blanket. He even sleeps with us!
Up to now, he had been fed with puppy food soaked with milk substitute. It worked fine for him. In this two weeks he had grown up and now he's more aware of the environment and obeys when I whistle to him, he's simply a cutie.
I also have a 4yo kid, and you're right, sometimes it is hard for them to tell that a puppy is not a toy.
If you wish we can share experiences about our young puppies BoxerNala, it could be helpful for both of us.

I have Killer he is 5 wks old now i got him at 4 wks... The mother had died and the breeder was a friend of mine and she couldn't take care of all 9 of them so i got Killer. He is doin' great I started him on Purina puppy chow but then learned that Purina is not a quality food so I changed him to Science Diet and he is doing great on it. I keep him in my lap most of the time and he also has a stuffed animal that my daughter gave him to sleep with. I took him to the vet and they gave me de wormer for him and I am taking him back to the vets on Friday for his first shots... I tried a milk supplement and it gave him the runs so i took him back off of that the vet told me that as long as i soak his food he should do great and as of right now he is healthy and doing good.... So i wish you the best of luck with your baby. and I agree with the others on training You should wait till he is at least 6-7 wks old...

You might want to do some further research on SD.... I actually made a post about it to see if it is good kibble or not.... I promptly changed my baby to Chicken Soup...... Also, on the SD Dojas coat got really course in some areas.... Now that shes not on it, she seems to be doing better.....

I agree about the Science Diet. Crystal, if you hop over to the feeding forums, you will find a great deal of information on the quality of Science Diet (or lack thereof)

hey and thanks i had heard SD was not a good kibble and now i know it isn't thank you all so much.... I"m gettin' a recue boxer in a couple of days her name is whopper and she has been starved so any info or suggestions would be great..... and For boxerNala i hope your pup is doing great Killer is doing wounderful and my boxer family is growing...Good luck with Nala....

As for kibbles, if you hop on over to the feeding forum, you will find a wealth of information on premium kibbles (as well as which ones to avoid). In short, you want to avoid kibbles that are high in grains and "cheap fillers" like, Corn, Wheat, White Rice, Beet Pulp, etc...
Some great kibbles to choose from (in no particular order) are:

My husband and I rescued our beautiful Baily.
She too is a boxer/lab. She was only 5 weeks and we fell in love. We were told she was 8 weeks, but our vet thought she was only about 5. This is before I found this awesome site. Anyway, I totally agree with a smaller crate, but we started crate training right away. Every night I would warm up a water bottle and tuck it into her covers. We also bought her a stuffie that she would sleep on. She just recently tore up that stuffie and she will be 1 in Feb. My husband would have her in his lap and she would fall asleep there and then we would just move her. The crate was close to our bed so we could hear her get up. You won't get a lot of sleep during this time, but it goes really fast. If she is 4 weeks a milk suppliment would be a good thing.

Is she your only baby? If she is...you might want to think about puppy kindergarten to help with socialization. You won't be able to go to puppy kindergarten until she has all her shots and when she is older. But it is something to think about. We loved the class and so did Bailey. Our girl definately needed it.
Have fun...because they grow up so fast.
