I have wanted a boxer since 2006 when I went to Cuba on a mission trip and spent some time with a boxer, the pet of a man we visited. He was beautiful and sweet.
Fast forward through seminary to moving to Southeast Iowa with large house with a huge backyard. My wife and I got our first dog as a gift from family; a sweet Great Pyrenees/Beagle mix named Chloe. After having her for over a year, we decided we wanted a playmate and finally began looking for a boxer.
We got our 15 month old Josie in March through craigslist from a family who kenneled her all the time and didn't have space or time for her. She was 45 pounds and full of energy.
We just lost our Josie on Thanksgiving. (I'm writing a post in the Rainbow Road forum).
Though we're still hurting from losing our girl, we knew we wanted to have another boxer in our lives. Saturday, we adopted an 8 month old brindle boxer from a family that also didn't have room for him. His name is Cassius and he is sweet, mild, and very loving already. He isn't here to replace our Josie, but he will be a great playmate for Chloe, and another loved part of our family.
I'm excited to be a part of this community.
