I decided to make an appointment with a new family (woman) doctor, sick of my other doctor. I wanted to go for a checkup, cholestrol, sugar & thyroid. I am approaching 40 & never had a thing checked. I get there & they have no record of my appointment:( Then take all my info & say she can see me shortly. Well I am then taken to a waiting room & waiting a total of 2 hours before I see her! I told the nurse, I am in a hurry. I am now fuming, I fasted so I am hungry, and worried since I had to take my Dad to an appointment after me which was a 40 minute ride away. They take my blood pressure it is a little high 122/80, they say that is not good, I have had normal pressure all the time. I said "well I waited for 2 hours1" I am not happy. She does a thorough checkup, then said all looks good until she looked at my back & says "I have curvature of the spine!" Do you have back problems? I said no not at all, Well you have to go for an xray for that & then writes me up a mammogram, I said I am going to my yearly checkup in March, I will get it done thru that doctor. She insisted I go now for that now. I feel that is not her territory and the ob/gyn's area. I finally got the blood test done & go back early January. What is everyone's opinion about this doctor. I just went for cholestrol, sugar & thyroid. Would you go for the back xray? I am waiting for the mammogram in spring at my yearly ob/gyn appointment. Sorry, I am ranting, but still fuming over this doctor. Makes you want to avoid them altogether. Thanks for listening.

I would switch doctor's. Anyone that made me wait 2 hours for an appt wouldn't have seen me anyway. After 1 hour I get up and leave! My time is as important as the "doc's" time the way I see it.

Sorry you were treated so poorly:(

I agree with Madison's Mom. I only wait half and hour in the room, doctor or dentist. Then I leave if I've had no attention. Believe me, it only happens once. Don't these people have any business sense?

I'd do the same at the vet's office too.

My hubby said I should of left too. I don't even want to go back for the results. Will a doctor give me results from the blood test over the phone or let me take them to another doctor? Cause I am not going back after that fiasco!

That is awful.

My only input is when my boss has blood work done they fax him the results with notes as to what is normal and what is high. Maybe they can do that for you so you don't have to go wait another 2 hours!!!

I second everyones opinion of finding a new Dr! A 2 hour wait seems ridiculous, given that you made an appointment!!

Regarding the blood test results, I always get my results through the mail. I get a checklist with thyroid, kidneys, liver, etc.. and the results filled out to the side. Then it tells you the "normal range". It looks like a pretty standard form, so maybe you'll be receiving this in the mail?

At any rate, you can call and ASK for the results to be mailed to you, then switch DR's. Just provide the new DR with the results so that you don't have to get your blood drawn again.

Also, I have never had a mammogram, but I would also think that is in the OBGYN's territory.

Good luck!

I hate most all doctors. They think they are Gods and the rest of us are simply morons. They don't listen but insist they know all about us and our symptoms and what ails us. BullS*(*(. I know my body and my health better than any doctor ever will and when I say something is wrong, I know something is wrong.

I usually have to diagnose my own problems. They all seem to not know anything at all these days about diagnosis and rely on test after expensive test to no avail. I end up 9 out of 10 times on the internet finding my own answers and then have to search around for a doctor who will check into it for me.

I had to do this for my current illness. Doctor after doctor said they didn't know what was wrong with me. Or they said this that or the other which I knew wasn't right. I found my symptoms were classic of a very serious and deadly illness and after 4 months of "gee, I don't know. Maybe you should take this that or the other test. . ." I finally found a doctor who said, "you're right. These are classic symptoms." I also had doctors tell me to write a will because I only had a few months to live. After 4 months I finally found a doctor who said "bulls***, there are options and you can live a relatively normal life if we can just bring this under control. There are medicines and if all else fails a new surgical procedure which could possibly help you." Believe me, I was at my wit's end and felt totally helpless and alone until I found this doctor. He literally has saved my life as I am now under medical treatment which is working (slowly) and I am improving daily.

They are like kids at McDonalds. They only know their speciality and relay on the machines and tests to tell them everything. They simply cannot think for themselves.

And what's with this Acid Reflux crap?? I had 3 doctors put me on Acid Reflux meds. I've had acid indigestion maybe 10 times in my entire LIFE and have never ever suffered from acid reflux. Yet, they all asssured me that I did have acid reflux and needed these pills.

They are all under the control of drug manufacturers and insurance companies. They aren't interested in helping people and curing illness anymore. What in the world happened to the old fashioned General Family Doctor? I sure do miss the "good old days."

I hear ya! Yes...I'd go elsewhere. I don't tolerate being treated like a "nobody" either. In fact last thurs I called our doc's office to make my husband an appt. I had to leave a voice mail, so I did and explained and asked for a return call. No call back. Friday I call again, same thing. Monday husband tries to call.....answering machine. I tried again later in the day...whoa...somone answered! I explained again and she said Ok, hold on one moment. I said sure...she put me into voice mail again!!! I immediately called another office, they took my info, entered hubby as new patient and made him an appt for tomorrow afternoon just like that. We will be trying this office now and see what happens. That's just ridiculous. When I get in these situations I think back to my very first job and something they always pounded into our heads "The Customer Always Comes First"!! To this day I still treat people like that and I expect to be treated the same in return. I agree with Dan..what happened to the "good ole days".

Good for you Dan for doing your own research. If you waited for the Dr.'s you might be dead by now.

Linda as far as going back for the blood results, (first of all it doesn't take 2 months to get them)I'd call and say no way am I coming back after a 2 hour wait. Some docs only make you come back for that stuff so they can bill for the visit. And since when is 122/80 high? DUH. That's nearly perfect.
