Update!!!!!!
Sorry for not posting an update sooner!!!
I don't know if I mentioned this before but when I took Maddie in when this all began, the doctor also ran a thyroid profile on her (her first thought when I mentioned a decrease in activity was a thyroid problem.) Her results were typical for Hypothyroidism however she did not want to start any meds until she recovered from surgery. I mentioned to the internist that her energy level has been worse since surgery and she seemed more depressed. She felt since her glucose levels have been pretty much staying in the 70's for the most part (sometimes dropping into the 60's) that should not be causing her to be more lethargic, she thought something else might be going on with her now on top of the insulinoma. I reminded her that the other doctor tested her thyroid and she was now hypothyroid. She said that might be the reason she does not seem any better and less active. So, I started her on thyroid meds about 1 1/2 weeks ago. She does seem a little brighter since I started the meds, looks brighter and pinker (since she is white you can usually notice her pink skin, for a while her skin wasn't pink.......her gums always remained pink though.) However, she still does not have as much energy as she did before all of this. I decreased her thyroid meds about two days ago because she started panting a lot more. It's hard to tell if the thyroid meds made the panting worse or if it is still the pred making her pant. I figured I would back down on the thyroid dose to see if it improves any. It also looks like she might have lost some weight which I contribute to the thyroid meds. She is eating very well, she eats every 2-3 hours and pretty much let's me know when it time to eat again (she LOVES to eat.) Every now and then she will get a tiny burst of energy and try to do a burn around the yard but she tires out real easily. I absolutely LOVE those times, it puts a big smile on my face and melts my heart!!!!! We are still considering doing the CT scan in few weeks and then will make some other decisions based on what we find or don't find with that. I am hoping since the internist will be returning from vacation on weds. that she will follow up with putting the call into the other doctor she wants to talk to about Maddie's case, well see. So, thats were things stand for now. She is still hangin' in there for us and I try to enjoy everyday I am blessed to have her here with us.
It means the world to me that you all care so much and continue to keep Maddie in your thoughts and prayers, like I said before, we can still use them!!!!!!
