Natural ears that bleed and scab at tips

Since I am online, Does anyone have any solution or problem with scabs forming at the tips of natural ears?

I mentioned this to the vet and she stated that Boxers are prone to this and to keep them moisturized. Does anyone have a home remedy for this problem or do I have to pay for a prescription?

You could probably use something like bag balm....but you need to get to the root of the problem. Why are the ears scabbing and bleeding? With my natural-eared girl, it happens when she shakes her head - hard - frequently. Those ears whip around and then split open. The underlying issue is that she has a problem with yeast, so we've cut out all grains, root vegetables, and fruits and are clearing it from the inside out. Frequent cleaning of the ears is essential, as well, until the problem is cleared. There is something called Blue Power Ear Treatment that I have heard wonderful things about - www.itsfortheanimals.org/BLUE.HTM - but this is a suppressive measure and may provide relief, but if you don't address the underlying issue the problem will keep recurring. (And be careful - it stains!)

Basically, we feed her Proplan Lamb and rice. So as far as cutting anything out of her diet, it would not help.

I guess I was looking for reassurance that this was not the only isolated Boxer with this problem. I have noticed it especially since the dry Winter months. And especially when she shakes her head and it hits objects. For instance after giving her a bath she shook her head off and her ear hit the toliet seat and subsequently started to bleed. I posted this same question about a week ago but didn't get much response, so maybe it is kind of a unique problem. Bingo gets this same condition in the winter too, and I thought it was because he shakes in the middle of the night and hits his ears on his crate, so I wondered if his crate was too small, but it's already huge. Then the ears will bleed if it gets really cold out, like 20 and below if we go on walks and when he shakes his head they'll bleed. Last winter I put neosporin on them continually, it has a steriod in it, but it seemed to help me get ahead of it anyways. But I noticed the same thing starting tohappen this year.

I agree with Julie M and as someone told me in an answer to my question, it might just be the yeast in their ears that makes them shake their heads. I am going to try a natural remedy to see if it helps and clean his ears out but Bingo's ears smell fine and are very healthy looking but he is a head shaker and a general shaking freak. I am going to get a bigger crate for Bingo because he likes to sleep in it at night, but it's gonna be huge. So, I guess I would see if you can clear up her ears to get the shaking to stop and we'll see if that helps us both!!! Try looking up a recipe on here called "ear beer" and that is a natural remedy that I'm going to try or something close to it. Good luck!

I have a 3-year-old boxer that started that around the same age so I took her to the vet and the vet treated her for scabies but that was not what was wrong so a year went by and it was just getting worst she started getting little dots on her head (pimples).
Well to make a long story short we spent a lot of money and going to different vets looking at her and now we are changing her food again but still have the problem I hope you can find out what it is

Ok, now that is really wierd. I noticed that Bingo had like 3 little bumps (pimples) like you mentioned on his head a few weeks ago. They all came off and now there are just little spots where there is no hair and I assume it will grow back. I assumed they were just pimples but my Aunt said they might be hives because that is what happens to her boxer. His ears haven't started to bleed yet this year but the hair on the ends is sparser than the rest. I wonder what is happening. That's wierd. Has changing the food helped with the ears?

Zeus has also had a couple of those bumps on his head. They kind of scab up, but when the scab comes off he has a little bald patch. I thought maybe he was scraping his head on something. Now that I see other people are having the same problem, maybe I should have him checked out.

Just went to a vet dermatologist yesterday about this!

Okay everyone,
I just spent $197 yesterday at a vet dermatologist on this exact issue. Montgomery (our natural eared baby) has the same thing. As Julie said, it is exacerbated by yeast. The problem is that in causes the circulation in the tips to decrease which can eventually lead to the tip of the ear not being recoverable. Our vet gave us antibiotics (Cephalexin) (that's for the pimples on the head which are acne w/ a slight staff infection - if it's not cured it can lead to hairloss in those spots.) Medrol - which is for the swelling in the veins of the ears, Otomax and some Humilac spray along w/ Chlorhexidine shampoo. We are supposed to give him baths in the chlorhexidine a couple times a week for a while and then once it gets better, start to massage his ears with a little Humilac spray (you can use other "bath oils" but I'm not a bath oil person, so I just bought the spray) The massaging will help to build the circulation back in the ears so that they can heal. You may take note to see if in between your dogs toes it's red. Montgomery's is and again, the Dr. said it's caused by a yeast infection....
Who knew?!?!? Anyway, it is treatable, but it needs attention and so you may want to see your vet about it - or at least get some of the Chlorhexidine shampoo and something to massage those ears with!

We've had the problems with the ears and the feet and an overgrowth of yeast that devolped over Lexi's body. We saw an allergist and dermatologist. We've tried a lot of different things but like Julie have reverted to eliminating all grains, root vegetables and fruits. Lexi is doing well and is medicine free If your problems persist, you may want to look into a more natural diet or a kibble with all natural ingredients!

Thanks for the info, Zeus also has the redness between his toes along with 1 or 2 bumps on his head. Did you get the shampoo from the vet or can I pick it up at PetsMart or something?
