My Sister Said..........

I called my sister to tell her about my new boxer, Ollie.
I expected her to be happy about the news.
Instead she said I was crazy.
She said the boxer is the most distructive dog there is and want and need constant attention.
She told me by the time Ollie is 20 weeks, I will be looking to get rid of her. I was suprised at her reaction.
She owned a boxer. he was beautiful and very well behaved.
She told me I only saw the good side of him.
Because she live in a different state, I only met the dog a few times.
She told me that getting Ollie was the biggest mistake I ever made.
Are there any boxer owner who can shed some light on what she is talking about.
Are these dogs realy that impossible?

I don't think you'll have to look very far on this site for evidence that boxers are the greatest!!! Some boxers can be destructive (like all breeds) but if they are the right fit for your lifestyle and they are well socialized and trained, they can be wonderful.

Prove her wrong!! all dogs can be distructive, boxers are wonderful dogs. When they are puppies like any dog things need to be put away and they need to be crate trained. Read the forums and ask for help if you need it and I'm sure you will have no trouble.

I agree with the others that boxers are like any other breed and can be destructive. Over the years I have had german shep, doberman, collie, chihuaua, many mixed breeds, minpin, and boxer - and I will tell you my favorite is the boxer - I will never be without a boxer now. They are incredible through and through. As Scorpio said "prove your sister wrong". Research, read and do the training - you will have a friend for life and will never regret it.

I agree 110% with (Poetic thing).I’ve raised different breeds, but the Boxer has more personality than I’ve seen in any breed. I’ve never had a dog that seemed like it had a since of humor before. About being destructive, I believe most dogs at a young age will be destructive. I believe it’s apart of there learning process. The one thing I don’t like about Boxer is that the unconditional love they give becomes so addictive you can't help but give them so much love and attention.

Well, if your sister had a Boxer, ignored it, kept it tied up or left outside with no companionship, training, or socialization, then out of desperation and boredom, it might have been what she would consider a destructive dog. Yes, they are attention-sponges. They seem to have an unquenchable need for your time and love. But if you are conscientious and willing to spend some time with your boy, you will have a wonderful family companion. You will be blown away by the sensitivity and intuitiveness of these dogs. They seem to have an almost human-like nature. I've never known any other dogs like them. We have, unfortunately, caught the disease of Boxer addiction referred to by Poetic_thing. We just got Holly, our second Boxer, about six weeks ago, so we have twice as much to deal with now. YAY!!!

Boxers are a great breed.. How many other breeds have their own www.Dogsnamehereworld.com ? hahhaha

Our first boxer was oscar and we couldnt imagine a day without him in our lives. Now we have champ and we have to work more and more on training and other stuff but you know what? The love is worth it.

If you bought a dog to type up outside only to see it when you feel like it then take it back to the breeder. But if you got the boxer for companionship and for a great pet then you made one of the best deciesions you will ever make.

They really are kids in fur, just like kids they have to be taught alot of things. Ignore your sister and proove her wrong and be the best Parent you can be.

Boxers are THE best!

Yes, they require attention, love, playtime, lots of toys, obedience work...... but if you give them all of those things--which they deserve--you will be rewarded with an amazing companion whose silly antics will keep you in stitches and whose soulful eyes will make even the worst day okay.

I dont think boxers are any worse than any other breed of dog. I grew up with labradors and they chewed everything for their first year. My boxer is only 17 weeks and he is the most well behaved dog as long as you exercise him and show him attention, but he hasnt destroyed one thing so far. I dont think you made a mistake at all, you will be happy with your choice. Boxers are not like any other dog.
