I can't believe how incredible I feel right now, and lucky that I own boxers.

Maggie, Susie and I were taking our last walk before bedtime. It was our best walk ever with very little pulling and everybody doing their business on cue. It was really a lovely walk. I decided we'd walk around another block or two because they'd been so good and I could continue praising them and rewarding them on the good stuff.

Well we got about a block from home when about 7 or 8 young boys, loud and rather scary came up from behind me. Down the block at the other end, another 7 or 8 were coming around the corner. I thought for a minute that I was going to get caught in the middle of a gang fight or something. I can tell you, I was beginning to feel fear.

The dogs must have sensed my fear because they came very close to me and became very attentive, one looking behind (Maggie) and the other ahead (Susie). We kept walking toward home, approaching one group of boys. As we approached, Susie reared up on her hind legs and tried to lunge at the boys. I held her back and we kept walking. The boys moved around me and met up with the other guys behind me.

As we were walking, the entire group was following me, talking about how they'd like to have dogs like that. One said, "you think we can take 'em?" and I can tell you. I was really scared then. Then one of the guys started barking like a dog trying to rile either me or the dogs. Both dogs turned, reared up on their hind legs and barked and snarled like pit bulls!! It scared even me and I was nearly pulled into the group by these two snarling dogs!

The boys backed off immediately and the "barking boy" said "whoa, man. we were just kiddin' around." I said, "I hope so 'cause I'd hate to let these dogs loose on you."

They crossed the street and we walked home.

When we got upstairs I was shaking! I grabbed my dogs and hugged them so tight and thanked them. God, was I glad they were with me and their instincts were so good.

As I sit here typing this I am so moved by their bravery and loyalty in trying to protect me from harm. And to know that they did this even though both are the friendliest, wiggliest, kissiest dogs around. There was a reason these two girls came to live with me. Maybe this was it.

I have never been more proud of anyone in my life as I am of these two incredible girls tonite. Thank you Maggie and Susie. Daddy loves you so very, very much!!

Thank God you all are safe! Your girls deserve extra treats and hugs from you; sounds as if they did a great job! Your story just goes to show you that you should never, ever underestimate your Boxer's loyalty and bravery to you. angelicon It also reiterates that you never have to train a dog to be aggressive; when the need arises, they know what to do.
What a scary situation. Again, glad you are okay. :)

Dan, first of all let me say, im so glad that you had a good ending to your story. I cant imagine how scared you must have been, and bless those girls for protecting their daddy

Dan, Thank God you are alright and your two little girls are safe too!! Seems like Susie has taken to you already, glad to hear that. I know from past experience that you can rely on these furbabies to protect you when the need arises. However, as you say, they are the sweetest things normally. Glad you had a safe happy ending.

My husband travels alot and I have always been worried that my Dukie boy would only show his kideny bean dance to somebody who may want to harm me. Your girls showed me that just cause he is a lover doesnt mean he cant be a fighter if the time arises. Glad to hear you are safe Dan. Your girls are wonderful.

Wow! Dan how scary. I'm sure glad the girls came through for you. I think our boxers know when we are afraid and will act accordingly. Lots of extra hugs and biscuits for them tonight.

Way to go girls!

Gosh Dan, your story scared the crap out of me! How horrible for all of you. I've always felt that our sweet, lovable babies would rise to the occasion if needed. Bless their hearts.

I'm so glad ya'll got home safe & sound. Can you just imagine what would have happened if they had tried to take one or both of your girls? That's too scarey to even think about!!

Congrats Maggie & Susie on being so courageous & protecting your daddy:)

I am so glad everything turned out all right with you, I could almost feel you fear when I was reading your post, I also know the feeling you are having for your girls right now, isn't it the greatest, these dogs come through for us when we least expect it. I remember when Samson was around 8 months he protected my daughter from a Rottie that came after her, he kept himself between her and that dog until a neighbor came to her aid. I just kept hugging him and thanking him for what he did for her. Give your babies a big hug from me, I am so thankful they were there.

Well done girls!!!

Hi Dan ,

I am so glad you are safe, what a terrible experience, your girls sure did right by you angelicon, I had a similar fright, I can only walk Ginty in the dark, as she hates other dogs, one dark , rainy night I was walking Ginty past the cemetery, which is quite isolated, when five youths jumped out from behind a bush, it scared the hell out of me, but cute , cuddly Ginty suddenly changed into a growling, raging, foaming at the mouth monster, I have never seen anything so funny, the youths ran for their lives, jumping over headstones falling and swearing!!!! Ginty got lots of cuddles and kisses that night (well more than usual)
I have since seen these lads, they tend to cross the road and look away, Ginty still gives them a deep throaty growl, (stay away from my mum)

They are truely incredible animals these boxer babes of ours. Really glad your safe Dan !!! Ginty sends your girls big slobbery kisses lovicon

Bye for now Pammyjean and Ginty sleepicon
