My girl had surgery today

I have been watching a lump for a few months, it was size of a pea end of September. That is when we had Lily's annual check, vet said possibly a fatty cyst. It got larger in 6 months. So we had it removed today and will be sent out for a biopsy. Praying all is okay and a fatty cyst. She also had her dental done again, needed 4 teeth pulled, she had a dental 3 years ago and we were told she had bad teeth and gums. I figured lets get it done again she is almost 8 and rather not do it when she pushes 10. We will pick her up in a few hours. I just hope she leaves the stitches alone, if not a cone it is. The area where lump was on upper rear leg right below the belly.Kind of a weird spot and not like it was on torso where you can throw a shirt over it. I hope I can find one of those soft material cones in a pet supply place if needed. I don't want have to wait for it to ship from somewhere on line. Any ideas to keep her away from licking the area besides a cone? Keep her in your thoughts and will post once we get biopsy. I am sure that will take a week. Have my list of questions to ask when we pick her up.

Aww poor pup! I used one of the inflatable donut style collars on one of my dogs after surgery. It worked better than a cone, as the cone really freaked him out, plus he learned to maneuver it so he could use it as a pillow when he slept.

Wishing for a speedy recovery and a clear pathology!

Sammie was always freaked out about the cone (even the comfy cone which was unfortunately non-seethru), I felt it did more damage than good. At the time she needed it I had a neighbor that could sit with her all day so it was a non issue. If it were today, I'd try the donut Gatorblu recommended.

Here is hoping for a speedy recovery for Lily! Hopefully she will leave the incision alone and a cone will not be required. :)

Well wishes for your Lilyloveicon Our Lily used the cone twice, once for each knee operation. I think I'll look for a doughnut next time someone here needs it.

Good luck! The cones can be hit or miss. Zira had no issues but poor Zeke freaked with it on so we got the inflatable and he had no problems with that one - and he looked super cute in it too! loveicon

Thank you everyone. She is recovering nicely and staying away from stitches. Although she looked back like maybe it is itching?? The hardest thing is to keep a boxer calm and no activity for 10 to 14 days. She is getting stir crazy, no walks, no running in yard. The hard thing is she wants to get up on our bed, that is where she sleeps. She has 2 beds, first 2 nights I slept in living room with her. I can't do it anymore, I am not getting a good nights rest. So I brought her bed in last night, she slept in till 4:30am. But it needed constant telling her to stay there. Although when I got up that little bugger jumped up and I was horrified. Made her get down. I worry about the stitches most of all. We don't want her up there even if we lifted her up and she decided to jump down in the middle of the night. Any tips? I don't want expensive pet steps, I thought maybe a piece of plywood and we carpet it. Brought that in and the sissy is afraid of it. Still waiting for results maybe by Friday and stitches come out on the 28th. Does anyone know how long it takes for boxer fur to grow back?
