My baby's small...

Duchess will be 9 months old tomorrow and only weighs in at 36 pounds. I guess she's just small. I wonder how big she will get...

Sara,

First let me say that at 8 months my Marcie was 47 lbs. so it sounds like Summer's weight is just fine. Please remember that Boxers do take a long time to mature. Dempsey took 3 full years to fill out to his current weight of 74 lbs.

Secondly and more importantly please don't be offended by Matt's post. Breeding, while one of the most natural things any animal does, can also be very dangerous. The links that Matt gave you are for your benefit and education. While I agree with Matt when he says
The only really valid reason for breeding is for the betterment of the breed
I also believe that most breeds wouldn't be around if they were only bred for the "betterment of the breed". If that were always the case then there wouldn't be any "pet quality" pups, they would all be "show quality". If you're still interested in breeding, then at the very minimum please make sure that you do wait a MINIMUM of 2 years and that you do the testing of both the dog and the bitch where Matt's links pointed you.

Jingo hovers between 40-43 lbs. She appears to normal in all aspects. Milo hovers between 50-55 lbs. He too appears normal in all aspects (w/exception of skin probs).

I think both are on the smaller end of the Boxer size spectrum.

I didnt mean to come across as wanting another boxer as being the only reason I wanted to breed her. It was just a thought. Nothing that was definite. And I knew that I had more research to do on the pros and cons of it. I wouldnt do anything to put her in danger. And size doesnt matter to me. I do love my baby more than you know. I was just wondering the norm for a female boxer. Im not even sure of her exact weight. I can hardly lift her and 50 pounds was just a guess. (she has a vet appt next week so Ill know for sure). Some people say gosh, she is skinny. Arent boxers are supposed to be slim? Just wanted some opinions. Most people dont believe me when I say my dads boxer weights 100 pounds! The vet says that He is Beautiful! She said there was nothing wrong with his weight. Hes just a big boxer. Ive talked to my vet about breeding and he did inform me of the tests that both dogs need before. I guess size just varys from every boxer. I thought they were fully grown by the time they were a year old. Thank you uno. Youve made me feel better. :( I think alot of people who want to breed are sterotyped by some who do it just for the money or are just careless. I understand that there are people out there who do that. Although that is not my intent. I thought it would be a good experience and definitely would consult with my vet for help even for the birth. Like I said, Shes still a pup and if I did consider it, it would be a long ways from now. Thank you for the links Matt. And for everyones input. Its greatly appreciated!

Shelby is 8months and 48lbs. She seems like she is on the smaller side, but perfect for me! I wouldn't want her any other way! Sounds like she is pretty average compared to other boxers her age.

Dasia, my 9 month old bundle of joy, went to the vet today and weighed in at 48lbs. I always thought she was small, but most of the females I see around here are about her size.

Megan will be two in May and only weighs 54 pounds and that is as large as she is going to get. So don't feel bad there are small boxer girls out there.:D

Southern Art... My baby sounds about as small as your girl. Samus is 8 months and only weighs 35 lbs. I wonder how big she will be? I was getting a little worried reading about all these other huge boxers, compared to her. It made me feel a little better hearing about yours! Max, on the other hand is about 18-20 lbs at 11 weeks...:)

Thanks, lthompson35! I'm glad I made you feel better; you definitely made me feel better too! I was starting to get concerned about Duchess. I suppose she's just petite. ;)
