My thoughts are with you and Orson during this difficult time. You will make the right decisions. And Orson loves you for it :)

My thoughts are with you as we had a similar incident last year with one of my babies. I pray for the best for you and Orson. I am glad he is home with you for now.

I'm so sorry and sad to hear that Orson is not doing well. I know how sad you are. But I am glad he is home with you, keep loving him as much as you can.
Orson and you are in our thoughts!

Jeff,

Trust your Vets and your heart to know what is best for your baby.

I pray that your results will be good for treatment and recovery. I also just spent some time at VHUP with my Cookie and I know that they will do all they can to assist you in making the right decisions.

Please let us know how he is doing!

Still Waiting...

Well, I waited all day to hear back from the vet reguarding the biopsy results, and she never called me...Waiting is the hardest thing because I wonder how much time I am wasting in waiting, when I should be having Orson treated.

Tomorrow if I hear nothing I will be seeking another hospital, my understanding is that there are a few Cancer treatment centers for animals in the country, and I have a call out to one in Colorado...If nothing else I am seeking advice, but I need to know the Biopsy results before I can discuss the matter with anybody.

Orson is doing well at home, but he is starting to get more fluid build-up, and that will make him uncomfortable...It's hard to let your baby be uncofortable, and not being able to do anything makes me sick.

I'll write more tomorrow, and again thank you all for your kind words, and prayers!

Jeff

I am sorry you havn't heard back yet. :(

But place a call first thing in the AM to the hospital and request your results. Unfortunatly they are a VERY large hospital and your Dr may have been caught up in another case. I have had very good comunication with all 3 of Cookie's attending Vets, maybe you just got unlucky with the one vet who isn't as good as the others with communication. Make sure that when you do talk to the Vet they understand how IMPORTANT it is for you to be well informed as to your dogs condition.

Give VHUP a chance, I was talking to a couple today in the waiting room who drove all the way from Williamsport,PA to have their dog treated for Lympho Sarcoma (sp?). That was 3 years ago and the dog was in for his check-up and was still CA free!

What ever you decide good luck and keep us informed! Feel free to PM me if you need someone close by to talk to!

Hugs to you & Orson

Louisiana State University (LSU) has a state of the art cancer treatment center at their vet school. They report great success. It is a little closer than Colorado.

Update...

Orson's biopsy came back as condrasarcoma, which isn't the worst of the cancers to treat...However, the Vet feels the real issue is the heart based mass.
Orson is going for an MRI in the first week of January, and in the meantime he will go to the hospital tomorrow to tap off all the fluid he is building up.
The vet is now also talking to many other specialists to determin the right angle of treatment...I consider this decent news, since the cancer isn't the worst that he could have had.
The frustrating part is the delay in everything since the holidays...but worse is the delay casused by another vet....Orson had an appointment for a free MRI on Dec 4th, but the Vet called and canceled it because he felt Orson should get a biopsy first, and now I found out he should have had the MRI first, and that vet totally messed everything up with canceling the appointment...He should have left it alone, it was free, and it would have aided in his diagnosis, so by him canceling the MRI, he basically pushed the next possible MRI date to January...A month later again.
All these delays are really disturbing, and lead me to lose faith in the ability, and knowledge of the doctors...This is why I keep questioning them, in addition to the fact that the vet handling Orson doesn't seem well educated on his illness...SO I am basically forcing them all to actually seek advice from other vets, and be more investigative in this matter.
I am totally put off at the moment by how much I am fighting for a simple diagnosis, and treatment plan, short of them telling me to put Orson to sleep, I haven't heard a reasonable alternative.
I'm willing to take a chance, and try to do something...I can't allow my baby to just simply die, when I believe there has to be an alternative to simply doing nothing at all...I'll keep you posted.
Jeff
