My 5-month old boxer, Samson LOVES to get into my cat's litter box and eat her POOP!!!! What's up with that???!!! Has anyone had a similar experience and can you share some insight as to how to resolve this issue. He knows he's doing wrong and when we catch him he drops the poop and takes off running. Will he grow out of this?

Ashley used to do the same thing!! ewwww I have seen other posts mentioning this subj. Most say keep litter box in seperate room or place not accessible to the pup. I tried that but I didn't really have a place that the dog couldn't get to except for shutting the door & then how would the cat get in there (besides the counter & I think that would be kinda nasty). Anyway I bought a litter box with the top on it & placed it with the opening facing a corner or to the back of a wall so the cat could squeeze through to get in the box but Ashley was too big to sneak a snack! Sadly to say, I no longer have that prob. my kitty, Lady, lived a short life taken by the highway @ 7 mo. old.:( We miss ya!

My 4 month old Finley has started doing the same thing. He also knows it's wrong but he keeps on sneaking in there and doing it. There is really no where I could move the litter boxes so he could not gain access. I have actually thought about cutting a hole in my laundry room door and installing a small pet door that only the cats could go in and out. If any one else has had this problem, any suggestions would be helpful.

Yep, Baylee loves the litter box crunchies! eeeewwww! I have tried but Bay still doesn't understand that it is not a delicacy in our household. She'll come into the living room with saw dust on her nose (we use Feline Pine or All Pet Pine litter that turns to saw dust when the kitty pees) she has a look on her face like what I didn't do anything. She gets a "time-out" as my kids call it-we put her in the corner of the room and have her face us and put her in a down position (my brother taught them "plotz") and we tell her to stay. She'll sit there and look at us so upset like, 'I couldn't help myself mom!' then we tell her ok and she'll get up and come over for a pet and sit next to me. She's learning sometimes (the little turd) will come into the room with that look on her face and go lay down in the corner with the ok, I know I did something wrong look. lol! It is too funny, she knows and she doesn't do it too often anymore, sometimes I think she did it out of boredom? Not sure though. Good Luck! Let us know what you try.

We actually put a kitty hole in our laundry room door. It works great--better than having poop smeared into our carpet by our little kitty tootsie roll eaterevilicon

And best of all--our kitties get some privacy.

Cat poop eating dog

Thanks for all of the positive feedback. You all gave me some very good ideas. I'm also going to ask his puppy school teach on Thursday night and I'll let you know what she says. It's his first class!!! I didn't think I would have this much feedback so quickly. I can always count on the boxer world family for some help.

Cat = Candy factory

Our previous Boxer, Blaze would love to eat the poop. So much we had nick names for her, Litter-Lips and Shit-for-breath. We had to put it in a room with a gate, the cats could squeeze under the gate.

Our current Boxer, Josie, hasn't found the candy box yet...

We also got one of the automatic litter boxes from litermaid. (http://www.littermaid.com/) They are expensive, for a litterbox, but they work great and worth every penny.

Bailey also used to eat the kitty poopy, the best advice I can give to this one is to just clean out the kitty poop as often as possible!! Luckily Bailey kind of grew out of it. One of those automatic kitty litter things would work wonderfully though! As soon as the cats go, it cleans it out. I would love one myself!!

Crunchy outside...chewy center-yep, it must be a kitty treat...:rolleyes: ...and it is cat flavored too. We use a spare coat closet wit a baby gate across the door locked in place about 5 inches off the floor.
