A little garlic is fine and is very helpfull in avoiding fleas, mosqutios and other bugs. It ia a member of the onion family but does not contain the same concentration of poisonus stuff the onion does. Garlic in moderation is ok, no onions should ever be given.
You can make a paste of baking soda and water to help with the itching from mosquito bites (people too). But if your boxer is anything like mine they will lick it right off. Great for people though.

Poor Mickey is all little bumps when he comes in from playing in our huge (and wet) yard, I just HATED it! Mosquitos are really hard on me, so I felt really bad about my baby getting chewed on. We use Advantix and I spray him with "FlysOff". I found it at PetsMart and I'm on my second can. It lasts for a decent amount of time and those nasty little blood suckers don't get dinner from my baby anymore!

I live in alaska, and if anyone has been up here, we have monster mosquitos and lots of them, I just go to the feed store and buy a spray used for dogs and horses, (citronella) and I only have to spray them once every three days, or when I see a mosquito bite on them. I have heard (rumor)that advantix can give your dogs seizures. don't know if it is true. something about licking their skin with advantix on.

I have not heard anything about side affects from Advantix, but I was at the vet's office today and my vet had it pulled from the shelves.
He won't sell revolution or any of the other stuff with a ton of "poison" for multiple pests in them but does sell Advantage. He said he found it wasn't repelling the mosquitoes and has more ingredients than necessary for flea/tick so it was pulled and shipped back.
I have been told you can lightly rub on some Skin So Soft like humans use.
Here is SWFL where it is all beach, mangroves, and ponds we have a TON of mosquitoes, even in the middle of the afternoon you can get swarmed!
Maybe I wasn't using enough garlic, because it didn't do the job for us. I bought garlic pills from a feed store. I would love to combat the pests with garlic if there is something I did wrong........
My father uses garlic for himself when he is out boating at this time of the year for nightime fishing and he still gets bit.
