OK, I need to know, and everyone from Florida had better answer me on this,

Who is from Florida??
And where are you located in Florida??

The only reason i am asking is because when i get down there in the end of september, i would like to know where my wonderful boxer people are. fiestaicon

Oh and i forgot, I will be living in Citrus County, Lecanto area, and i was wondering if that area has any major tourism hot spot??

What does the weather like year round, aside from the hurricane rains that come thru every now and then?? Do i need to bring my heavy winter gloves and gear??? I guess i will be in centeral Florida, but i am not sure yet.

Lisa (Jazz'nChase)
When i get down there, can i look you up?? Do you mind??

Lecanto itself is not a tourism hotspot.....but Crystal River is.....and if you look at a map they are very close. Crystal River is right on the coast and is famous for the manatees that we have here. So people from all over the world come here to swim with and see the manatees. This is a somewhat small county....Im not sure how big of a place you are coming from. I guess it just depends on the perspective:)

I forgot to mention the weather:)....lol
In the winter it doesnt get cold.....usually 20-30 in the morning. I have heard people from up north say that it feels colder than that because its not a dry cold...you know..the humidity thing. But ive lived here since I was 5 and i dont even wear jeans or pants during the winter....but then again I like to make up for all the hot weather I had to deal with in the summer.:)
have you ever been to Fl?....or in this area?

I live in south Florida on the East coast. I was born in Wisconsin but grew up in Chicago(I still miss Chicago). I have been here for almost ten years now.
My husband is from Mich. but moved to central Florida as a young child.

The weather in south Florida is quite different than the weather in Central FL, my in-laws live in Ocala and it gets much colder there than here.

Hummmmm

As far as it being 20-30 Degrees in the morning, i am used to it being about 0 or under up here, lol, so i guess that 20-30 is a welcoming note for me.

I have never been to Florida, but the first thing on my list of things to do is head to DisneyLand, lol :)

I think my friend whom i am going to be living with said that we are about 35 miles southwest of Ocala.

Melanie,

Ocala is quite rural, its horse country, lots of horse racers and breeders. The cost of living is cheaper there than South Florida but there are less jobs to be had, and the wages are less.
There is a huge retirement population there as well, so if you can get a job in a health related field you would be all set.

There are great antique stores up there also. Its very wooded, and reminds me of the midwest much more so than down here where I am. The summers get quite hot in Ocala because there is no breeze, and I freeze when I go there in the winter....although I think that has to do with my in-laws refusing to heat the house above 65.

Well, I am from FL but am currently in Hawaii since my husband is military. We are from Kissimmee (DISNEY WORLD). That is very touristy! I love Ocala! But I love horses, so makes sense! :) We are going to be in FL in October for 2 months to visit familly before we have to move up to Clarksville, TN. :( But I like Clarksville and can't wait to live there instead of here in dreadville. sleepicon

Floridian, not Native

Hi, we're from Callahan, just north of Jacksonville, Florida. I came here from Southern Illinois in 1996 and haven't used my winter coat but a few times. Forget the gloves and the hats, unless you like to wear them. It rarely gets cold enough for them here.

The bugs are pretty bad, and they have all kinds of strange ones that I had never seen. Keep lots of spray on hand.

The good thing is, if you boat, you can pretty much do that all year round.

All-in-all, I love the place and wouldn't go back unless I absolutely had to.
