I was wondering if there was something you really would have liked to have after having a baby, something for yourself. Since I don't have any children and all I wanted when I got a puppy was earplugs ;) I have no good ideas.

My best friend who I've known for twenty two years is expecting twins. I wanted to get something specifically for her when she has the babies apart from flowers, balloons or giant stuffed animals.

She has unexpectedly been admitted to the hospital so I fear I don't have a whole lot of time to put something together. My mom suggested a comfortable new outfit, which I thought was great, but I have no idea what size to get her. Also, someone at the baby shower gave her bath and shower items.

Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated!!!!

I think it is great that you will get something for the mother other than the baby:)

I am no mother but a gift check would make me very happy;)

Maybe a gift certificate to get a massage or something relaxing like that where she can go and get out of the house. I was going to say manicure but with twins and all the laundry and diaper changing going on that prolly wouldn't be too practical. Get her something she wouldn't get herself yet, she wants.

I did the exact same thing for my sister that MyGirl Heidi suggested: A gift certificate for massage, nails, feet etc. She loved it and after having the baby she needed it!:D

How about an IOU for baby sitting, anytime she wants to go out with hubby and get away, you owe her a night of baby sitting. The massage idea is really great too.

I'm new to the boards (this is my 2nd post!!) but this caught my eye....

I would have LOVED to have someone make some "freezeable" meals so I didn't have to cook. Something like a casserole or maybe lasagna or spaghetti. Anything that you can keep in the freezer, pull out and throw in the oven.

Good luck on your decision and to your friend!

A gift certificate to a day spay where she can get the whole treatment...massage, facial, pedicure, manicure AND line up a babysitter(s) so she has the time to go.

Meals are wonderful, clothes can go either way depends on her self image after birth. Some would welcome a nice new outfit to wear while getting back in shape, others would be in tears reminded that they weren't back in shape yet.

Does your friend have other children? WHen family and friends have had babies we have always brought a present for the other kid(s)...the baby gets so much attention that the others noses can get out of whack.

Even offers to run errands, clean house would be appreciated. Don't jut tell her you will...she may not call you, some people are like that. Twins are a lot of work!

Karens..I would have to go with the spa idea! I have had 3 babies, and after each one I HATED new clothes because, as Dukie's Mom pointed out, it just reminded me of the weight I USE to be, or wanted to be, and I usually ended up in tears! There was always 2 things I wanted the most after having a baby...SLEEP..and to be pampered! Pampering is the best thing for a woman going through the post-natal blues! So, how 'bout a day at the spa, full treatment, (hair is important too cuz we tend to lose important nutrients in our hair as a result of childbirth), and while she is enjoying a great day at the spa, you can babysit for her! I am sure you will get some enjoyment out of newborn twins for a few hours!:D And if you don't, you can always book an hour or 2 at the spa for yourself!;)
You sound like a good friend to the new mom...she's lucky to have you!:)

If you live near her, take some snacks to the hospital. My sister just had a baby and I a bag over to the hospital with cookies, chips, cheese & crackers, grapes, etc - stuff that I knew she would like. She loved that because the hospital food was gross, plus sometimes she got hungry in the middle of the night. (or if you don't live there, there are several services that you can order a snack basket to be delivered instead of flowers)
