Boxer Insane
Just an update from me and Millie, and a huge thank you for all the good wishes from our friends on BW.
Millie has been doing really well since I was last on here..Talk about astounding everyone, we are talking about an 'old' dog here (well in Boxer terms, but of course she'll always be my baby) she'll be 10 in a couple of months, and what with her heart condition, and a diagnosis with an aggressive cancer, a few short days ago, her prognosis didn't look too good..I've cried a million tears as I've watched her in pain getting over her op and the massive skin graft that rid her of her tumour, I've seen her loose her appetite, and turn her face away from even her most favorite food, I've hand fed her small morsels of food every couple of hours to keep her going, hiding all the pills she's needed to sustain her recovery in cheese, butter or bread, anything to get them down her. I've laid on the floor next to her every night, in the hope that she would get some relief from pain, and we could both get a couple of hours much needed rest..I've watched as she's had her dressings changed every 2 days ( with my hands over my eyes, because I so don't want to see those wounds, and all those staples holding her flesh together), and I've prayed so hard for God to spare her from any more suffering and pain..At times throughout all this at 3am in the morning, when she's been crying, and trying to gnaw her way through all those bandages, I've doubted my decision to have this op done..But...Our vet looked at her again yesterday, and he's amazed how well she's doing, her heart is doing fine and her leg has healed better than even he could have hoped for..|He called in the other vet that assisted in her op, the nurses, and even the receptionists (who all know and love Millie) to have a look how well she's doing..Millie of course, loved being the centre of attention, and rewarded everyone who came in with great big slobby kisses, and butt wags. He said he's never had such a hard time covering a wound as large as Millie's..He had to be radical in how much flesh and muscle he cut away to make sure that all the cancer was gone, but because it was in her knee area, it was one hell of a job to cover afterwards..He managed with a flap of skin pulled down from her thigh, he had to make little cuts in it, a bit like lattice pastry, to enable enough pull and stretch to cover the hole completley..Normally, you couldn't guarantee all the skin would 'take'..But in Millie's case it has, all clean, no infection, nothing but good healing flesh! appicon...He said she was as fit as a butchers dog, and he couldn't have hoped for a better outcome..One more full dressing change tomorrow, then, on Wednesday, we have the marathon job of all those staples coming out, and then it's light bandages only..You really can't believe what a neat job our vet has made of her leg, once the hair hair grows back to cover all the scars no one will ever know what she's been through..Except all those brown spots that used to be up in her belly area are now halfway down her thigh, and my eyeballs are hanging down on my cheeks, and I've developed a head full of grey hairs:
...Jeez, I'm so jealous, Millie's had plastic surgery.. I wish our vet could do something about my jowls too..My chops are starting to look worse than hers!....
Thanks again for all your good wishes, you were there when I needed you most. xx
