It's thirteen weeks tomorrow that we lost Stella. At times I still weep for the untimely demise of our pretty 16 month old flashy fawn baby. When Cinda our older Boxer does something that reminds me of Stella, I can't help but go to the place in my thoughts where I can see how Stella would have done the same thing, and I have to smile and tell Cinda so. I enjoyed watching the two together playing, sleeping nose to tail or bounding over the fields chasing each other. Stella was the pushy one, in our faces for affection, (she was a rescued dog) watching us for any sign we were about to go out and then into the car before we could stop her. She hadn't been trained and I was in the process of doing so when she died. She hadn't been vaccinated, spayed, registered, de-flead or fed properly either. One vice she had was running away. Having Cinda as playmate stopped a lot of that, but when she realised we were about to go home after a run, she'd take off into the neighbouring farmland and demand that their livestock play with her. She didn't chase the cattlebeasts, she went head to head with them in an effort to play properly. Of course they were curious and advanced en masse and she deftly avoided all hooves and lowered heads with horns. When she expressed a desire to play with the sheep and lambs we passed on walks I realised we had a big problem and she could be shot for doing something like chasing them. Never would I allow her off her harness around these animals, but down on the beach she and Cinda ran free and loved it. We were blessed to have known her for such a short time (3 months) to be loved by her(very affectionate) and she was just beginning to settle down. I am still looking for another playmate to help Cinda get over her loss as well as ours. A young man would do the trick, and another fawn would be lovely. I sometimes look at Cinda and think she may not have much time left so I want a Boxer baby before she goes. She is seven this December. Thanks, Stella for being such a beautiful addition to our family. We loved you dearly.

I just wanted to say how sorry I am on the loss of Stella. I'm sure Stella is playing at the bridge with all our beloved boxers, beaning and woo wooing all over. Take care of yourself and Cinda and I wish you all the best on bringing a new baby into your home & heart.

Magic

After reading your post I felt sadness fill heart; it made me so sad to know that you hardly had enough time to show your Stella a loving life before you lost her. I am glad that you shared your story and can understand your pain. I lost my beautiful boxer, Magic on 09/17/04. I have had so many painful days since Magic has left. She left a huge hole in my heart. I now have many fears of opening my heart again. I just rescued a 15 mo. old male boxer from California. The first few days after getting him home, I thought I had made a mistake, as he was very challenging. He has finally accepted us and is showing a very sweet side to him. Now, I have to face the fears in my heart. I want to protect him and keep him safe. However, I now know that life has a way of taking over, such as, what happened to Stella and my Magic. I have wished a million times since Magic got sick that she would have passed away because of old age. I was not prepared to loose her before that time. I am hoping you will feel the healing thoughts I am sending your way. Thanks again for sharing your babies story.
with much sadness,

I'm so sorry you lost Stella after having her only a short time. I can tell you loved her very much! It doesn't make it any easier to lose one after a short time. One can get very attached to a boxer immediately, in my experience!!

I do hope you will get another boxer in time when you are ready.

Today, while looking for something else, I came across the card that came with Stellas' remains. It was the poem of Rainbow Bridge. I was too upset to read it when it first arrived and have only now read it and made the connection. Something about thinking of her playing at the bridge and waiting fills me with pain and tears and it is truely a bittersweet moment. Even reading those words on these threads does the same thing. At such times I think I'm losing it altogether. It is time to move on. It has to be.

Missing my Magic

I completely understand your post. I had a difficult time reading the Rainbow Bridge poem. I read it many, many times and never felt the connection. I realized, after Magic left, that she hated separation from her family and I was not there to take care of her any longer. I found no relief in her being at the bridge. I am still struggling with it today.

I welcome memories of my Magic but they hit me so hard that it usually makes me cry. I some times wonder if I will ever find peace with how Magic had to leave this world. My story about Magic is long, it is called "Moving Magic to Rainbow Bridge." A Boxer World Pal left me a beautiful poem on my site. It might help you also.

I have a box with Magic's things she loved the most. I still to this day cannot open it. My stepson’s best friend wrote a poem about her...I cannot read it yet. It is truly hard and like you, I sometimes feel that I am loosing it. I am thinking about you hoping that some where in the depth of all this that we can make sense out of things that do not make sense right now.

With much understanding,
Julie, Magic, and her rescue brother Deeg

Stella would want for you to be happy. Aren't boxers always happiest when we are happy? I hope your heart is healing.
