I totally agree with you Morgan, maternity clothes seem so out of fashion. I was 17 and a senior in high school when I got pregnant, so it took some time to find cute clothes, and about $350. But I was picky then. I got most of my clothes at different stores in the mall. Good luck.

GAP does have a new maternity line and it is not as pricey as you might think, although I've never been pregnant so I don't have anything to compare it to. Nonetheless, I think GAP is fairly reasonable as far as clothing goes. The maternity line is available on-line and they often have free shipping or promotions, etc. You can check it and their prices out at www.gap.com.

Best of luck.

Hi my youngest daughter Katie is due any day now........ She is normally a size 8,,,,, and is now in a size 10..... she has managed to wear her ordinary clothes up until last month.....and is now wearing drawstring pants, and her husbands tee shirts , she has put on 10lb in weight. Hey girl, I'm with ya!! Luckily my sister gave me a bunch of her maternity clothes. I am four months today & have gained about 4-5 lbs but my tummy is popping out :). I am not yet in maternity clothes but it is just a matter of time now 'cause everyday the pants are getting TIGHTER and forget about jeans!!! I am off tomorrow to get a few more things and plan on hitting Target, Burlington and Motherhood (I was actually very suprised w/ the prices there. I saw really nice work sets for about $35.00 and they had some real ~trendy!~ stuff for reasonable price). Good luck to you. This is a tough time - you are too little for maternity clothes (looks like a tent) but getting too small for your regular clothes (looks like a stuffed sausage :() Hope it makes you feel better to know others are going through the same thing!!

I just went to motherhood and saw some cute things. I bought a pair of flare leg jeans for 29.99. Some of their things are a bit expensive, but I did see cute pant suit outfits for business for 29.99. :) Im just worried about what Courtnet said about needing new shoes, I have an extensive shoe colection and I will be so sad if I cant wear them:(

Morgan,

I'm glad you found some good stuff at Motherhood. I went in there just once because as I was walking by in the mall and I saw a nice shirt (like a polo style shirt, nothing fancy) by the windown but when I looked at the tag it was like $65! And others had told me to pretty much avoid those specialty shops. I didn't fully investigate. Sorry.

As for the shoes, you may be OK so don't worry just yet. I wonder what experience other people have had out there?

I was able to wear all of my summer shoes, which were primarily slides and sandals and flip flops so they're not enclosing the whole foot, but now that sandal weather is winding down I have tried on several pairs of my regular shoes and they are just too tight! I bought one pair of loafers to have for now that are a full size bigger than I normally wear.

My sisters both had similar experiences. One went back to her regular size after having the baby, and the other stayed the bigger size! Who knows how and why this happens.

PS to Pammyjean: Your daughter is due any day and has only gained 10 pounds? ACK!! I also began at a size 6 or 8 but I would hate to guess what size I'd be now -- and next to her I'm sure I'd look like a cow!! Congratulations on your soon-to-be new grandchild.

When my mother-in-law was pregnant (yes, I have a 4 year old brother-in-law) she hated all the maternity clothes that she tried on because they were all flowery and frou frou. She went to the plus sized stores like Lane Bryant when she couldn't fit into her regular clothes anymore. The clothes were still "hip" and fit better than those tent-like maternity tops.

Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy and eventually your new baby. I'm jealous. My husband made me decide between a new boxer baby or a skin baby (then I have to wait at least a year before the other). Of course I choose the boxer baby...
