Cami has massive diarrhea. Started with terribly bad gas after her oncology visit on Monday. This is typical after she gets her tumor injections and usually lasts for about 3 days.
Talked with oncologist this afternoon and she swears that it isn't any of the three meds that she received on Monday.
First of all it has been a full 2+ days since she had the meds. They *should* be out of her system by now.
Could be stress from the visit. No likely as vet offices are a 2nd home for her (not really but you know what I mean).
She could have picked something up from the hospital however it would have to be air born.
She didn't touch another dog. Didn't lick any surface. Perhaps her tongue touched the floor?
Good grief.
Was told not to take her off of food. Hadn't planned on it.
Told to add some rice. Probably won't do that. Asked if I could give Pepto. Yes. Will be doing that.
If not better in another 24 hours to call her back and or take a stool/puddle sample into her regular vets for testing.

Can we just PLEASE go one friggin day without a Cami "thing" to dwell on??? She needs a break. I wouldn't mind one either.

Susi, you BOTH need a break. I wish I was closer I'd take her for a day or two so you can recharge. Someone posted in Indy's thread about a natural diarrhea med for dogs. I'm going to ask the onco what she things and maybe I can take him off the flagyl. Let me know what you think about it.

Praying that it's just stress and it clears up soon. Please keep us posted.

We are starting day 2 of diarrhea. Day 1 was a nightmare. Night one was LONG.
It's constant and sad to watch. It has also been raining. Cami doesn't do rain. HATES IT with a passion.

I was up all night with her and racking my brain trying to figure out what is going on.
I picked up a new bag of food on Wednesday and her dinner had just a bit from the old bag and the majority of the new. Two more meals (yesterday AM & PM) were totally from the new bag. Nothing else has changed. I also didn't give her any of her meds/supplements last night expect for her thyroid. She can go without her Benadryl, fish oil, vitamin C, Taurine, etc...until this is cleared up. Just didn't want to have any additional things in the mix for her to deal with.

I took her off of her food and she had a breakfast of rice, scrambled eggs and some banana. She has had three doses of Pepto since last night at 6pm.

I e-mailed her food manufacturer to see if they had possibly changed their ingredients or had other customers inquire with dogs having the same symptoms. Hopefully they reply today.

Thinking about trying to call her regular vet to see if I can bring in a stool sample for testing. Grasping at straws here. I have no idea how to get a stool sample from a puddle. I guess I will have to try and catch it!

OK. I feel a little calmer now. I called her regular vets office and asked to speak to a tech to see if they could give me some insight into the meds used on Monday.
Her vet got on the phone and talked me down!

I know I am a paranoid freak when it comes to my girls. I can't help it. Nothing has ever been "easy" for them. Cami doesn't just get a bump. She gets cancer. She doesn't just get a yeast infection she gets an allergy to her own yeast. Factor in the heart issues and thyroid and every single time that something is amiss with her it is MAJOR. My mind is now programmed to expect the worse and to just react like it is at the first onset of anything.

Her vet says that he wants to put her on Metronidazole (Flagyl) to see if that will stop the diarrhea. Also will be adding in some Forti Flora. She could have just picked up some bacteria somewhere. I can handle a little bad bacteria. I never even thought of that. Of course my brain went to the WORST CASE SCENARIO in under 2 seconds flat. I need to learn how to not over react. I'll put that on my TO-DO list.

Now I am off to research this very commonly used drug! I wish I could just let it go but I can't. UGGG.

Poor Cami! If it helps I have used Flagyl and it usually resolves the diarrhea and I have never had an issue with it. My sweet Fraze, gone to the bridge now, was like your girl-never got a break and at the end was taking five different meds-but the Flagyl did always help him whenever he had a bout of diarrhea. I will think good thoughts for your sweet girl

Got the meds and administered the first dose of Flagyl.
Things will get better I just know it.
As with everything else Cami is taking it all in stride. I know she doesn't feel 100% but this last time we came back in from outside she gave me a huff & a puff when I told her that she needed to STOP & get her feet wiped off. Typical spoiled brat (in a good way).
After that she ran straight for her toys, grabbed one and started playing with it,
Made my heart ache a bit less.
We are going to try and get a little shut eye now. Well I will do one eye shut and watch her with the other one.

I'm glad Cami is starting to feel better. I know it's hard sometimes not to overthink or over worry especially if you've seen the bad and the ugly. Thor had a bug bite the other evening. Since he had a mct removed not two months ago, I started to freak because he had a new "bump". A few hours later there is no sign of it. I'm not generaly a worrier, so I felt a bit foolish for thinking the worse right off, happy he was fine, but a little foolish.
