Male or Female prefrence

I prefer males myself, although I've only had 1 or 2 female dogs while growing up. From ages 12 - 17, I showed Paint Horses in the APHA circuit across Michigan and occasionally other states. I mostly had mares (female horses) and only a few geldings. Each and every mare I had was bitchy and had an attitude about once a month - go figure. Ever since then, I've just been drawn to boys! I have two male dogs and a female cat. I love my boys, they just seem more momma's boy's then females do momma's girls.

Such an interesting thread... My first dog and my first boxer is the boy we have now, Dieter. Even though I love my little mama's boy to death, I think (from what I've read about boxer females; never met one) I would prefer a female. Dieter is just soooo needy; I understand females are a little more independent, which is what I would prefer. I know it really depends on the dog and his/her personality, but next time I think I'd go for a female (although we've been thinking about getting a companion for Dieter, so, who knows? We could have a female sooner than we think!).

We always had dogs while I was growing up, only 3 of them were females (including the 2 females I have now.) I'm currently searching for a male pup, I've always been told that opposite sexes get along better...

I tend to end up with males. All the dogs I've had since leaving home have been rescues and they all happened to be male. No conscious descision, they just happened to be that way. They've always been neutered too, so I haven't had to deal with territory-marking problems ( or other problems too embarassing to mention! )

I love my boys!! I have a female black Lab and I know I love my Boxer boys more. (SShhhh don't tell my Lab please, I don't want to hurt her feelings)Their personalities are just so much different. They have never lifted their legs on anything or anyone nor have they humped. I also got both of them neutered at exactly 6 months. I don't know if its because my Lab is a female or just being a Lab but at 5 yr old she is still crazy.
My mom always had girl dogs and they either were independent or bitchy. My boys love on us all the time, they are my cuddle bugs

We also had both and loved both of them with all our hearts. That being said, our male was easier to potty train and he never marked or humped. He was a friend to every dog he met. My female used to hump our male and she didn't like any other dog except our male. I agree with the statement that "there is a reason they call them bitches". We currently have a male. Our first choice will always be a male.

I've had one female boxer, and two males. There's just a special place in my heart for the boys. Our last female was very loving and obedient, but she could also be pretty sneaky and aloof. The males have just been big 'ole smooshy teddy bears and I just love them

I prefer the Boys. I wanted a bigger Boxer and heard a lot about how the boys tend to 'bond' more and generally be more needy and affectionate. I have fostered other male Boxers and a friend who has a female Boxer has fostered both sexes. The male I fostered was VERY similiar to my Hugo. In fact, Hugo didn't like him because he tried to take Hugo's place right on Mommy's lap. I couldn't even go to the bathroom without him right by my side. My friend told me all the males she fostered were a lot like my Hugo. My friend said her female was also very affectionate but noticably more independant than the males she fostered.

I like having a Boxer-size shadow so I will probably always have male Boxers!

I have always had male dogs growing up and my first boxer, Oscar is 3 and obviously a male, he's great and a momma's boy which is just fine with me. We got jasmine in october, it scared me a bit to get a female only b/c I had never had any and the whole heat & spay thing. Jasmine is a sweetheart! I don't know wht I would do without her (or Oscar for that matter). They definitely have their own personalities, and Jasmine is a daddy's girl but is also very protective of her whole family, more so than Oscar. I have no preference I love them both to death.
