We just brought home a 15-month-old boy boxer by the name of Deeg. We got him from a boxer rescue. Does any one know what Deeg means? My friends, family and I cannot seem to pronounce his name more than once correctly. We usually call him Deek, Geek or "Yo, what's your name." His name is not clicking with us. I am thinking about changing it but do not want to confuse our baby boy since he is so new and having to learn all the house rules. I am going to read the other boxer name posts for name change educational purposes but was wondering if anyone knew what the name "Deeg" means. Thanks so much.

Hi Julie,

I hope all is going well with Deeg.

I just read a post the other day about changing names. From the post, I gathered that is seemed fairly common with rescue names being changed and after a few days they will recognize their new name.

I will try finding the post...but if not let me know what you decide to do and how things are going!

Deeg ! Welcome!

I love his name, its very unique! It is wonderful you went to rescue for this boy, I wish more people would do the same, there are too many Boxers with out homes & my heart aches to see these babies in shelters.So thank you for giving Deeg a wonderful home & I know Magic is glad to have a new brother! Leaving Deeg's name Deeg

We can not make up our minds about a new name for Deeg. Time is passing, so we decided to leave his name Deeg. Even though every one has trouble with it, at least the mispronounced names still sound close to his name Deeg. I really don't want to confuse him.

Maybe it's a nickname for the initials D. J. Like DeeJay, shortened to Deej, or Deeg (D. G., DeeGee) in your case.

When I got Beau, I couldn't think of another name for him either, so he's still Beau!! It suits him--can't imagine him with any other name now.

Deeg is a very handsome boy!! Congratulations! I'm so glad you went back to get him--I hope you are glad, too!

Hey Julie:
I will ask around and find out who named him over here at BRLA and why. There is one lady who names most of the orphans when they come in. I'll let you know.

I'm also partial to the name Deeg. When my grandkids were younger, they called their uncle Jimmy, Jeeg. The nickname stuck and that is what we all call him now. Glad to hear that you have opened your home to a rescue - Cathy

Deeg is FINE HANDSOME BOXER you are lucky & so is Deeg, & this is the greatest tribute you could ever give Magic, a brother, or maybe she sent him just for you, the love you give comes back 3 fold! Boxer Pal, Hanley
