We just got back from the vet and we have GREAT news!! His blood count is not back up to 48! The vets are confident that this is nothing to worry about.

We are going to start weaning him off the steroids this weekend! I can't wait to get him off all the drugs! I know the drugs are helping him now, but i hate giving them knowing that they are causing damage.

We will start by cutting his dose in half and then test his blood again in a week (after our first day of half the dose).

Thank goodness!!!!!! I have to assume that you meant his blood count is now (rather than Not) back up to 48.

My wife and I are off Friday to start vacation. As soon as I saw the E-mail notification of a new post, I held my breath. I am soooo glad it was good new.

It's amazing how we all begin to identify with one another's experiences with our dogs. I am always relieved to hear good reports.

I am not sure who I feel the sorriest for you or Owen. I am so glad to hear of another over reactor. I am so glad you sensed something was wrong and got him to the Vet. It sure does put your world in a tizzy. Hopefully all is going well and will stay that way. Thinking of you all. Teressa

Owen is still improving!

It has been two weeks on the reduced amount of steroids and Owen's blood count has gone UP to 51!!! He is such a super star!

We have reduced his meds by half again for the next two weeks and we will see what his reaction is.

We originally started on .50mg of dexamethazne (steroid), then went to .25mg for two weeks, and now we do .25mg every second day or half a .25mg pill once a day (whatever is easier on us!).

I will provide you all with another update in two weeks.
