Good news to start this Easter Sunday; so happy to know Kona will be OK. Give her a hug from me and Autry.

Recovery

Kona is off to a not so good start, when I brought her home she threw up a chunk of what they pulled out of her, she is also throwing up some bile. She took her first poop this evening and is wanting to lick ice chips and very small portions of baby food. Now I know she has just had a major surgery and all of that handeling of her insides, I am just worried and not knowing what to expect. I have had it with the vet's and surgeons, he told me this morning that there may be some of that foreign object in her stomach still. Well doesn't exploratory mean to explore? Why didn't they find anything else when they were in there? So now he wants me to spend another $800 for an endoscopy procedure to see if anything is in her stomach. I am totally at a loss of words right now about these people. I don't know what to do, now I am starting to think that it is her stomach that's been giving her all this trouble not just the piece they took from her small intestine. I just spent pretty much all of my savings on this surgery and now they want another $800? Any feed back would be much appreciated.

Well firstly so glad to hear your baby is home safe and sound. Secondly, I don't know what I'd do about that vet.... another $800 is a lot of money and I'm with you I would have thought he'd "explore" her stomach at the same time as the intestine but I guess I'd be wrong... Did he say that it would have to be done straight away or see if she comes good after removing the rope from her intestine and if not then open her stomach?

Will make sure I keep an eye on all ropes lying around our place from now on though that's for certain :)

Wishing your baby a speedy recovery.

Well, the problem is this.....it's been almost 48 hours and she isn't keeping anything down. She isn't technically "vomitting", it just comes up without the wretching. It's like the acid reflux us humans get but her food comes up with it. She CAN'T afford to lose anymore weight she is already way to underweight. This is such an emotional rollercoaster. I do know this I will be looking for another vet, I'm just praying Kona can start keeping things down.

I just caught this thread. Sure am glad that it is something besides cancer, that is always good news. I would not get to alarmed about the vomiting. Keep in mind she just had major surgery on her gastro-intestinal tract and this could all be because of the surgery. I would give her just a few more days and see if she doesn't start doing better with a little bit of healing time. Of course I would not let it go for anymore than 5-7 days post-op. Good luck to you and little Kona. Sending loads of healing vibes and lots of prayers to you both.

I just took her back into the vet, and she was dehydrated so they are putting her on an IV drip and watching her throughout the day. I didn't want to leave her but I had to come home for a few hours to take a shower and get some things in order. After I kissed her goodbye and was walking away she just looked at me with that sad face as to say "Mommy don't go". I feel so bad, and I feel all of this is my fault for not watching her more closely when she is outside. She never would have eaten what she did. It turned out not to be the toy rope, it is part of out palm tree that the dogs destroyed a few months back.

I'm continuing to send out lots of healing and positive vibes to Kona. I am puzzled about the exploratory. Because this is a digestive issue/obstruction, why didn't the vet "explore" the stomach as well, to ensure ALL of what caused the obstruction was removed from her system!? Is there an internal medicine specialist that you can get a second opinion from? Your poor baby girl :(, and I know you must be beside yourself with worry. Please keep us posted. I hope she is doing better very soon.
