Day 2 Update - 50/50

First of all...bless my vet. He's the absolute best! I called him this morning and he said that Simba had a rough night. However, his white blood cell count is up to 130 today. They did a distemper titre today and they'll get the results after the weekend. He is 100% Boxer, deaf and he's approximately 6-7 months old. I told him I'd go in today to see the little fella, and the vet said that would be fine.

I went there after work and the vet said they've renamed Simba. He's now been christened Lance Armstrong since he is a survivor. And we have to call him the whole name...Lance Armstrong. They suited me up proper and we went into the room where they're keeping him. So pitiful...I started crying immediately. We walked him outside, and he urinated but sat down from exhaustion, so we went back inside. They got him comfortable in his crate and let me sit down to visit him for awhile. Another thing that made me cry was they had him covered with a towel to keep him warm, and he just looked....comfortable. I'm sure that the first time in his short life that he's been cared for properly. The vet said he does seem more comfortable...he's moving without groaning now, his breathing isn't so labored, and he's getting some color back. He said sometimes they just have to get worse to get better. He wants to give him the best chance possible, and told me to keep praying for him, as the whole staff has been too. He also told me that no matter what happens, that I have done right by him.

Here's where my vet is the best...I told him I could make a payment today and he told me not to even worry about that right now. And when I told him I had emailed a few Boxer Rescue Groups today he told me that he was positive HE could find a home for him, so not to worry about that either. And as luck would have it, the dog he had mentioned that was just as bad as Lance Armstrong a while back...he happened to come in for a grooming today. They brought him out for me to seeand he's happy and healthy and about to start agility training. Hurrah!

Please continue sending vibes and prayers for Lance Armstrong the white boxer...because I think they might be working.

That's awesome, what you have done for this pup. At the vet where I work, we have a "Carmella" fund for stray and "looking for a home" dogs and cats. We have fund raisers like homemade dog treats and events at the bark park to help. We named it after a brindle boxer mix that we fell in love with when animal control brought her in with a badly broken leg. We gave her medical care and found her a wonderful home. It's a wonderful feeling to help some animal that has noone else. Jager and I are sending good healing vibes to Lance Armstrong.

Lance my whole family wears yellow Lance Armstrong Livestrong bracelets. Now they are doing double duty! ;) Hang in there buddy were are all pulling for you! :)

I think that this little guy is gona pull through because he just happened to come across the right people. You and your vet are angels and if we werent on the other side of the world we'd be first in line to bring lance home. We have all our fingers and paws crossed that this little guy knows just how loved he will be if he can just hang in there. Good luck and pat yourself on the back for being such a kind hearted person.

It is wonderful to find out what caring, nice people are still out there. You are truly a great person. Hoping that Lance Armstrong makes a quick recovery and goes to a forever home of his own where someone truly appreciates him and what you have done out of the kindness of your heart!

Kelly- you and your vet are amazing. I am crying tears of joy reading this post. It sounds like everything is working out and please know in your heart - no matter what happens you did right by this poor pup who had been so neglected to date.
Thank you - we need more people in the world who have a heart as big as yours.

Oh, what a tough start to what I so hope will turn out to be a great life!

If I were still living in New Jersey (instead of Ireland) I'd drive down to Indy and adopt Lance Armstrong myself. I adore white boxers, and I don't care about the deafness, either. Yeah, it takes more work with a deaf dog, but really... so what?

I'm so sure that there will be plenty of people who feel the way I and other BWers do and would happy to adopt Lance Armstrong. I'll be thinking of you and your lovely, good hearted vet and hoping Lance pulls through and thrives.

Please keep us updated!

I just caught this thread and had to speed through all the entries to see how Little Lance Armstrong is doing. I have tears rolling down my face--at first I was angry and disgusted with the evil that would mistreat and neglect such an innocent baby, leaving him alone at death's door. But all that anger faded when I read about your unselfish acts . . . and the amazing love and dedication of your vet and his staff. Lance has so many angels to watch over him right now!!! God bless you and your vet!

I am sending good wishes and keeping little Lance in my prayers. Ginny sends her very best get well wishes.

You have earned your wings Kelly!!
