As a person who has been partially deaf in my life (had a radical new surgery which restored most of my hearing!) and as a person in a family with hearing problems - I would take this little man because he is deaf. I can only imagine what a chore he'd be - at first - but how rewarding later on? People who want perfect dogs make me wonder - there are special needs dogs just like there are special needs people, and those dogs are no less worthy than the champion dogs. If I didn't live so far away I'd be there to help you tomorrow! I thank you for having the kindness in your heart to do something like this for an animal!

As for the rescue, talk to them again. Yes tails, white coat, deafness, and sick do make it more difficult to place, but if the pup is under 6mo's that is all negated. Somehow, adopters are more inclined to take on a puppy in this situation than an older dog. I guarentee, I could place this dog (providing he is under 6mos) in under 4weeks. And that time frame is based on being 6mo's. If the dog is younger it takes less time REGARDLESS of situation. It is a crazy world we live in, but puppies are much easier and quicker to place.
I would talk to your friend, then call the rescue ask to have all sit down for coffee or something and discuss fostering and care of this pup. See if they can help you find an adopter.
Anyhow, if you can't get the rescue to help, but your friend will still foster him. Then come on here and ask for help in getting the knowledge to place him yourself. There are loads of rescue people on here that can help you with the necessary information to place this baby correctly.

Update
Well...first thing this morning I called the vet's office to make sure the little guy made it through the night. He did and even wagged his tail a bit for the tech upon greeting him this morning. The vet called around noon with his findings after the check up...
According to his white blood cell count he has Parvo. It should be I think he said around 3,000. Simba's (that's the pup's name by the way) count is 80. From what I could understand his bone marrow is wiped out. In fact, all his counts are extremely low on every test. Plus, he has Hookworm. He is definitely on a day to day basis at this point. He also mentioned "sudden death" that is still a possibility.
I asked his opinion on euthanizing Simba, and he said that he couldn't really make that decision for me. My vet said he'd like to give the guy a chance and keep him for 5-7 days on meds, IV antibiotics, etc. With that being said they will cover the cost if I'd pay the limit that I had stated I could afford from the beginning. He said Simba may make it he may not, but let's give him a chance. My vet said that he had a case come in not that long ago just as bad, and that dog rallied through and found a forever home and is doing wonderfully. He asked that I come in to visit the puppy, so he could see a friendly face that isn't poking and prodding at him.
I called about Simba this evening when I got home to tell them I'd come by tomorrow to visit since I will have to wear gloves and a gown I didn't want to show up unexpectedly. They said he's doing fine so far, is taking his pills fine so is v. hand friendly and they expect he'll stay that way even after he gets better.
I explained the situation to my friend and he is still going to take the fella in until we find a home. He might've already found a forever home for him.
Anyway, he's definitely not out of the woods, but seems to have a few more
folks in his corner.

I'm happy to hear little Simba is hanging on and is even wagging his tail, a good sign he is not depressed. And your vet must be one of the best to help with the expenses of this little fella. Kudos to you, your vet and Rob for giving Simba a chance at the life every dog deserves.

Out of curiosity, you mentioned that it was a white boxer with a tail....not to question your identification. Could it be an American Bulldog? They look like a bigger boxer with a tail, but the muzzle is a bit longer. Just curious.
