I have a 6 ft privacy fence, and have had no troubles. Altho, I have heard many times of boxers climbing/jumping over a 6 ft. fence. Perhaps some training would help, but I know nothing about training a dog to stay in the fence. Or a taller fence. This could be a very dangerous situation for him, if he keeps getting out. I hope you can get this under control before anything happens. Good luck.

If you use the search engine top right, I think there has been a lot of posts re fences. Special harnesses you can use. etc
Good Luck

I have heard that dogs can't jump a fence if there is an obstruction on top i.e. as in commercial fencing on the top where they put an agle with barbwire or fencing. I'm not saying to use barbwire, but if you put some type of angle in about a foot with fencing on it, it throws off the dogs depth perception. Unless he is a running jumper, you may try something like this. Go to a fence company or supply house and see if they carry these tops. Family friends did this on top of there 6 foot privacy fence for the cats. Kept them all in the yard because they couldn't jump straight up and over.

Omar was a fence jumper too. He could clear our 6-ft. privacy fence. The only way I could prevent that from happening was by keeping him supervised when he was outside. Unless we were out there with him, I would let him outside long enough to do his business and chase Magnum for a little while.

BLAZER87 has a good suggestion about the angle at the top of the fence. Scorpio is right - there are a lot of posts about this subject. Do a search and you might find some other helpful suggestions.

When Diva was a pup she was forever jumping the fence. I had to build a six foot high solid wooden fence to keep her in. Now, at nearly three years old she still has the odd go at the fence! In fact, I watched in awe once as she jumped at and then climb/scramble over a seven foot wire fence.

You are going to have to build very high (at least six foot) fences to keep a boxer in. I know what it's like - I am moving in a couple of weeks time and I am to have to spend some hefty money on raising the fence already at the new place and building new fences as well.

I agree with the above. Either put some sort of an angle top on the existing fence - or build a taller one. Expensive, I know, but probably not much more expensive than the vet bills that come along with an injured doggie!! :) Resist the advice to attach an electric fence - you are are sure to get that from people. That seems to be a common solution here in Arkansas - I see it all the time. Drives me crazy! Lucky for me, my girls don't try to get out of the four foot fence they've been staying in, but we are about to move them into a smaller yard - with a six foot wooden fence, and I sure hope they remain content to just stay in the yard. I'm sure Bailey could get out any time she got good and ready - she's so athletic!

what we do

Our Bailey just learned to jump the fence a few months ago. It was an amazing sight. We thought she was digging out, but once we caught her in the act we could not believe it. We have a 6 foot wooden fence. She jumps up and catches herself on the ledge and then peeks over the top. Then she uses her back legs to climb on over. We rarely leave her outside unattended. If she hears any neighbors, she jump over in a second. I have seen her almost get hit by a car several times...very scary!!!! We have a metal contraption that you screw in the ground. We bought a 20 ft chain-link that attaches to it. It is placed where she can get to shade, water and no dangerous obstacles. During nice weather we keep her outside like this so she will sleep at night (otherwise she will sleep all day in her crate). It sounds awful I know, but I don't want to get an electric fence and am not ready to install more fencing around our huge yard. It works okay and Bailey is used to it now. She hasn't gotten tangled or anything and is never out there for more than 5 or 6 hours at a time. I hope she understands - does this seem mean?

I am not trying to sound mean or anything but you live in Texas where the temps. reach 90+ degrees. I live in Louisiana so I know how hot it gets. I dont know if oyu have ever had a Boxer before vut they cannot take the heat very well. They a short snout making it hard for them to breath. The heat makes it worse. I know you may not have any alternatives but 5 to 6 six hours is a very long time even with water and shade.

I knew a friend's dog that could clear a 6 ft privacy fence. It was amazing. He would do the same thing, catch himself at the top and the fence and then push himself over. The only reason we found out is we set him up. We put him outside and then walked around and called him from the other side of the fence and he came baralling over. We just kept telling him NO when he got to the top of the fence and we never had a problem with it again.
