Jumping at the window!

Coco completely blew my mind over the weekend. I was sitting in the living room on the couch, my son came in from outside for just a moment to ask something & then back out the door he went to a friends house down the street. Coco started fussing & whining cause brother came in & left so quickly. She doesn't like it when any of us are gone from home. In any case, she ran to the front window to look out & watch him walk down the street. Before I knew it, she jumped right into the picture window in the living room. It knocked her back wards & she fell right on her back in the living room floor. I know I was sitting there with my jaw on the floor. I have no idea what she thought she was doing. I suppose she thought she was going out that window after him. It scared me & astonished me at the same time. She's fine & the window did not break, thank goodness. I'm just wondering if this is something we have to watch out for when we eventually leave her out of the crate while we're gone. It could be extremely dangerous. Has anyone else here every experienced that? I still can't believe she did that.

Tess jumps at the window when dogs are walking by our apartment. It scares me to death! I don't know how to discourage it, either, except to redirect her. I worry about leaving her out for the same reason.

One thing I did that helped a lot was put up an extra layer of curtains, so she really can't see out the window very well. As a result, she's not as interested in jumping on it. That works about 90% for Tess. My bedroom curtains are sheer, though, so she can kind of see out, still.

**I don't recommend mini-blinds for this specific purpose. They have a funny way of sticking their heads through. It's hysterical to watch, but murder on the blinds.

We have a large bay window in our living room. My two jump at that window every time another dog or squirrel goes by. Drives me absolutely nuts. A little over a year ago, it happened!!! Diesel was jumping at the window because some guy decided my front lawn would be a good spot to let his dogs stop and do their business. My husband opened the door to ask him to keep walking, the man just stood there and watched Diesel go nuts. My husband asked him again (not so nice this time) to get moving. Next thing he heard was glass breaking!!! Of course, then the man started to walk away. Luckily, by some miracle, Diesel was not hurt. My window on the other hand was shattered all over my living room.

Since this time, we have had safety glass put in the bay window and everytime they see someone we try to redirect their attention. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

If anyone else has a better plan of action I'm all ears!!!!

You know Cassius does this at our front door (full glass). He doesn't jump into the window but he jumps vertically straight up in the air right in front of the window. He gets some air time......I think he has springs in his feet! He'll do this everytime we're outside and he's not! Crazy dogs

Hi. We have 3 large windows in the front of our home. They start about 2 feet fron the floor, so Joe can look out very easily. Those windows are the reason why Joe can not have free run of the house when we are not home or at night. My biggest fear is of him going right through that glass.

Abby is great. She doesn't even touch the blinds or windows. WILSON however.... Well, if the blinds are down, they get eaten. They don't get torn, the area where he wants to look through gets eaten. If he sees something, he will jump at the window with either his face first, or with his body like you see people do on tv. He jumps at it with his shoulder.

You must have the cleanest windows. .
Porter has been doing that at the front door (our storm door is all glass). I get so nervous he is going to go right through it. When he is outside the tries to walk right through it too and get so confused.

I have three widows in a shape of a bay window and they are really long and are only about a foot off the floor. My dogs have never jumped at the window but they do bark at it when they see people. Of course, I have no blinds on them. I decided not to replace them after I bought the third pair. I really wouldn't need any blinds if I didn't clean the windows. I mean with all that dog slobber, who needs blinds!!!

I do have a friend that has a Great Dane and she jumped right through the window to get outside with her brother one night while my friend was not home. Luckily the window broke in a way that didn't hurt the dog. She just got a few scratches. They are now thinking about putting in some kind of Plexiglas.
